D'Agostini Question

I figured I would post it in here instead of getting chewed out on the general board.

D'Agostini has played 5 games and there are 55 remaining and players like Brassard and Versteeg kind of leveling out. I'm I crazy or does D'Agostini have at least a slim chance at being a Calder Candidate?

I think if he does it'll be slim and will probably not win it but only be a candidate.

D'Agostini is on pace to have 60 points in those 60 games but as if he'll keep up THAT good. It would a miracle.

Just food for thought.

Discuss?

At his current pace, yes...

In reality, no...

No I highly doubt it. He will slow down eventually.

I mean I hope he keeps it up, but if he does that means he'll have like 50 goals this season and that's never going to happen.

Even if he does get around 25 goals 15 assists, the NHL will really only look at guys like Brassard and Doughty because they are more pivotal to their team's success, if that makes sense. The NHL will see a player like D'Agostini and take points away from him considering the Habs are already a very talented team.

I think it's too much to ask considering the head start that most of the players ahead of him have been given.

If he would keep up the pace he is on, he would be a candidate for sure.
but, as much as I love the kid, I dont see it happening.

He`s not going to keep a ppg pace. If he does stay the year, he might have an Skost like rookie season, which is roughly 30pts in 60 games. And that would be good.

If he keeps a PPG pace, he surely deserve consideration and have a shot at winning it too. That said it wont be easy to keep the pace, but you never know when your centerman is Saku Koivu.

He's on pace for being a lock for the Calder and a Richard candidate...

If Brassard or Versteeg doesn't get it, Grabovsky or Doughty or Schenn will.

D'Agostini will be overlooked IMO.

If he keeps scoring a goal every game for the rest of the season, he'll win it.

Will that happen? Unlikely.

If he manages to stay up the entire year, I'd say he's good for about 35-40 points. Remember when Lapierre first broke in? D'Ago is gonna be a star, but he has a long way to go

Sure he has a chance. Waaaaay to early to start discussing it though.

Heck remember when Gilbert Dionne was called up by the habs and only played 39 games with the team. He finished like 5th or something in Calder voting, so ya never know.

Nah. He's gonna get the 1st, 2nd and 3rd position....they might even rename the trophy after him.

D'Agostini will cool down in 5-6 games IMO, we'll see if he will stay all the year with the Habs in 10-15 games.

That is the last on our list of things to think about. Stanley Cup first, Calder 2nd.

If he keeps it up and plays with Saku and AK46 all year, seriously why not?! They looked great at times yesterday against a physical team, he has great hockey sense and he has two players with great vision who will look for him when positioned in the slot.

Anything can happen, but from a realistic view. Too many things would have to happen to make it possible. Missing 20 games compared to his competition doesn't help either.

If he finishes the season with 60+ pts I could actually see him winning it.

You don't watch enough Doughty if you think Schenn is gonna win it.

Well we all hope he can keep the pace but in the end I think the 20 games more played by others will be the difference

I would love to have either on the Habs. But I'm with you on this one LR, Doughty would be my choice.

BTW there is no way Schenn wins. Not saying he's bad but like habs fans, leafs fans often do overrate their own prospects. He's a solid D-man but he won't win the trophy that's for sure.

That D'Agostini kid looks amazing. Very fast and playing with confidence. Like some have said if he can stay up with the big club and continue to get solid time he has a legitimate shot at Calder. Versteeg seems like he will keep his pace up playing with Kane and Toews. Also look for Wheeler to continue to rise playing with Krejci and Ryder.

I guess any of the top 10 rookie candidates have legitiate chances at winning but based on D'Agostini's pace he could be soon right in the mix.
