Messier's linemates in 1994 playoffs?

Hello, I'm David Staples, a reporter with the Edmonton Journal, and I'm working on a profile of Glenn Anderson for his sweater retirement here in January.

I'm putting together a list of all Messier and Anderson's linemates over the years, and I'm coming up with a blank about whether or not Messier and Anderson played much with one another on the 94 Rangers, and who their other linemates might have been.

Do any of you remember?

And what do you recall of Anderson's play from that playoff year?

Mess was definitely on the first line and Anderson wasnt. I believe it was Mess-Graves-Kovalev in the playoffs. They ddint play together much at all if I remember right.

Andy played with Mess & Graves at times on the first line during the 94 playoffs.

I remember Messier and Graves at times playing with Kovalev, at times with Anderson and at times with Larmer.

I think Anderson was pretty solid all playoffs, I can't remember real clearly. Do a youtube video search and just see if you can catch him out there.

Around 1:45 of this video Mess sets Anderson up for a goal.

At :25 the guy that skates up to face off against Messier is Murray Craven, I play him tonight in my Rec League championships he's a cool guy. GO YETIS!

Just in case you wanted to add that tid bit to the story

Your right. Graves/Mess was always constant. Kovalev, Larmer, and Anserson got spot duty on that line. Keenan put Kovalev on that line for the Messier hat trick game against the Debbies.

I well just from the ECF and SCF Kovy probably played on that line the most, especially when you factor in the power play. Anderson and Larmer rotated in, but I remember the two of them playing together quite a bit.

Thanks gents. That youtube link is invaluable, as we're doing an illustrated story for this (essentially an eight-page comic book), and pix help.

Can't believe it has been 14 years.

Graves - Messier - Larmer - was the top line most of the time.

Mess and Graves were a lock together all season. Their wingers rotated with Kovalev and then Anderson (once acquired) spending most of the time on Mess's right side.

Once Anderson was on the team, he often took the right side of Messier and Kovalev centered the 2nd line with Larmer on his wing and Mattaeu on the left side.

3rd line was Nemchinov with Noonan and probably Tikk

4th line was centered by MacTavish, often on just to take the draw and his wingers were probably any of the Black Aces. ...Kypreos and Kocur maybe??? Gilbert, not sure.

...Outside that, I forget.

Yes it was Salmon sandwiches. Also since we are talking food, Baba Ganoush is a great middle eastern dish made from eggplant, olive oil, and garlic served with Pita for dipping. My wife is from Lenanon so I get all that good stuff.

Wow. Talk about a blast from the past. Yeah it was salmon sandwiches, which was made even funnier by Anderson's pseudo-lisp.

I had thought Kovalev played most of the playoffs with Mess and Graves and actually starting playing with those two down the stretch.

Maybe Renney might take notice to this . A little consistency in the lines might help...
