What would you give for a good 2nd line winger with 1st line potential?

Or a decent right wing to replace Lupul.

How about ...

To PHI:
F Taylor Pyatt
2009 3rd Round Draft Pick

To VAN:
F Joffrey Lupul

PHI gets a cheap 3rd line replacement for Lupul, and a mid-round pick in a deep draft, while Vancouver gets another player for their top six. I know Lupul > Pyatt, but Philadelphia's top 6 is set, and they need cap space to sign some of their players (Vannanen, Biron, etc) and Lupul's contract of 4.25 M (kicking in next year) will preven them from doing so. Also, having a 4+ M third liner is a waste. Pyatt is a perfect 3rd line player, having a salary of only 1.5 M. His pk skills are pretty awesome too.

Did you miss the part where we need a goalie prospect or shutdown type defenseman? Which one is Pyatt?

You guys would also need to replace Lupul on the third line, thus, Pyatt would be a perfect replacement.

That would be a solid trade. What would the Flyers do with 3 goalies though? Very onesided though.

Well, we don't need to replace him unless we move him for something we need. You aren't addressing any need for the Flyers in your proposal, other than addressing the hole you are creating for us.

Schneider is untouchable as long as Lui doesn't sign a contract extension. Also, we have no need for Jones, as Bieksa >>>> Jones. For Bieksa to be involved from our side, I would say Carter has to be involved from PHI. This team is pretty high on Kevin B.
Something along the lines of Kevin Bieksa + 2009 1st for Jeff Carter.

trade him to the pens as their top 6 wingers are less than desirable. doubt it would happen thoiugh. lupul will be moved either as part of package or not moved at all this year. summer time maybe for a pick/prospect possibly.

Meh - Lupul makes me nervous. He seems to wear out his welcome on teams pretty freaking fast, and though he has shades of really good play he's definitely struggling this year, and looks like he's once again returning to his 'Edmonton form'. Honestly, I wouldn't give up that much for him. Plus if the way he responded playing in Edmonton is any indication; the guy should probably not play in Canada.

That would open the door Knuble to be resigned along with Upshall and bring up Giroux.

or

Biron or Nitty could be traded to fill that gap on the 3rd line.

Something along the lines of Kevin Bieksa + 2009 1st for Jeff Carter.
Well then, the discussions with Vancouver are about over, aren't they?

You won't move a piece we would be interested in, such as Schneider, and there is no way you are getting Carter for Bieksa and a pick.

And so, in the proposal I was referring to, we just downgrade from Lupul to Pyatt, while collecting that precious 3rd rounder?

Yea, I don't think so....

You don't understand the whole logic of this deal. For PHI, they are giving up skill to get some salary cap breathing room. It's not a skill for skill deal; more like skill for salary cap deal. As for the Bieksa deal, out of the 8 playoff teams in the East, PHI is second in GA, only behind WAS. So clearly, something is wrong with your D/Goaltenders. Bieksa can come in and perfectly complement Timmonen, and form probably the top shutdown pair for the Flyers.

Whats the deal? Didn't Philly just sign him to a fairly long extension?

I was talking about picking up Schneider and clearing some cap at the expense of Lupul and Jones. Bieksa is out of the picture, thats a whole different trade. I could careless about Pyatt, I wouldn't want him. However this would open up a trade with Biron or Nitty for a possible pick up to fill Lupul's void from somewhere else..

Well, the whole premise of the initial post was to try and address weaknesses. Pyatt and a 3rd may provide cap relief, but it doesn't fill a need. We don't have to move Lupul for cap relief. His raise doesn't kick in till next season, so we'd prefer to move him to fill a hole. Pyatt doesn't do that.

Yes, Bieksa is nice. The 1st rounder is nice. Carter is nicer than both.
