How come you don't have an option for "don't trade any defensemen"?

I agree. The thing we have going for us is that other teams find themselves in bad situations as well throughout the course of the season. Like Dallas with this Avery situation. This is a perfect time for us to try and move one of our off season contract mistakes to a team who is looking rid themselves of their UFA mistake. I just don't understand the trading Rozy for Avery straight up and then sending him to Hartford thing floating around right now.

I'm really not afraid of offer sheets. If it really came down to it, and Dubi, Zherdev, Staal, etc. got huge deals, we could bury $20 million in the minors without flinching. Hell, in 2004 we were paying out like $75 million in NHL salary. Gomez, Redden, Rozi... these guys could all be sent to Hartford if we're backed into a corner.

Now a team that can't even pay to the high end of the salary cap and has young RFA talent... they have reason to be afraid.

i'd much rather deal redden

roszival is a lot more solid defensively and when he does shoot, his shot actually has some zip on it. i feel like redden and gomez have a running bet to see who has the weakest shot on the team.

also, the contract. i don't think rozy's deal is that bad (its only bad when you consider that we could've hat Streit for less). redden's deal is AWFUL. i'd love to see him and his fruity mouthguard out of ny.

Agreed, if Avery is a locker room cancer, the LAST place I would want him would be with our prospects...

There is absolutely no NHL depth behind the top 6 defensman that are currently on team now, so it would be huge risk to take just to get Sundin in here.

God forbid you then lose one or two defensman to injury and the you would have:

Potter
Redden
Denisov
Fahey
Kalinin
Mara

Oh yeah, but youd have Sundin... wooo hoo!

I'd rather keep them, give Redden time to acclimate to the Rangers system, and give Rozsy time to recover from hip surgery.

They look bad now, but we're not gonna magically trade our trash for Shea Weber.

I'm not for trading for Avery, but if we were to acquire Sean and a higher draft pick (I don't know why everyone wants the other Lundqvist) I would be willing to move Redden, Rissmiller, Dawes and a lower draft pick.

I'd prefer to keep the D we have right now and go from there... Our problem is goal scoring. Sean Avery is not going to help that.

you don't think Avery can produce more from the left side than Dawes? Put aside the sideshow that he is. Based on pure hockey ability, which do you think would perform better on the ice? I don't want Avery back, but I think he would help scoring and bring a element that's missing on this team.

Yep.

Avery + Niskanen

for

Rozsival + Callahan

That's one I created a topic for.

The recent one I'm referring to is from here:

that's what i'm scared of as well. if we do trade a dman we need to get at least a #6 dman back in return.

I'm sorry man but that does absolutely nothing for us.

Sure, Rozsival's having a tough time, but we're giving him up for basically nothing there. We don't need Niskanen, and he's nothing special. Callahan too? Callahan's about one of the only forwards we have who contributes regularly regarding effort and physical player. He's a good energy player, makes no money. No reason to get rid of him.

We don't want Avery's cancer ass back here. He already almost messed up this team bad enough in his previous tenure. Kudos to Hull and the Stars for being morons and giving him a big ass contract.
