Take an older player on the downhill ala Rivet

we got Gorges and a first.

And the guy who compared Armstrong to Latendresse...wow. Suuuure.

Some you forget how rare it is to acquire a young offensive puck moving defecemen. Its well documented and said that puck moving defencemen are gold in this new NHL era and are key pieces to succesful teams.

Oh, and I have a question to ask you guys. Considering what happened in the last few months, if we could come back to February 26th 2008, at noon, would you accept to include Higgins in the package in order to get Hossa, knowing what happened between then and today?

As far as I'm concerned, Pitts lost in the SCF, so no.

They can probably get Kaberle for less than that, while keeping their top prospects like Pacio and McDonagh. Kaberle is signed to a much cheaper deal, probably the best deal amongst top defensemen.

1st, Higgins, Halak

for

Kaberle

Why? I like Montreal even being a Leafs fan and pulling for them to win the cup and Kaberle will be SICK there, IMO. Just fits right into the team's puck moving style. Will make their powerplay even MORE dangerous. LOL~ !!

Martin might ask for that package... but Gainey won't give him... he'd be lucky to get Higgins with low tier prospects...

Forget about him... we need a top 4 d-man, not a no1...

And let go Komisarek?

Or maybe you want 22mil on 4 defencemen?

I have no problem believing that the panthers will get offers looking like that. I would prefer if Gainey would target a cheaper defence.

A big no for me. How many years did it takes to actually get our hands with what Pacioretty's potentiel could be? And I know it shouldn't be sentimental, but the draft in Montreal and you don't have a 1st rounder? Maybe in 2010 but in 2009, I don't see it.

We have too many d-men prospects to not use one of them in a trade. They won't be able to play them all if they all succeed, you will need to trade at one point. They're losing J-BO, they might be interested in getting a D back.

PS. NOBODY WANTS LATENDRESSE

THE habs dont even want him, theyre just stuck, so stop adding in trade proposals like he is some sort of deal breaker

Atlanta didn't get that nearly much for Hossa.

An unsigned UFA like that would be useless.

Ummm I hate to bust McGuire's bubble, but how does Florida not ask for a puck moving d man back i.e. Subban, McDonugh etc?

Doesn't seem to make sense that they wouldn't ask for one in return especially after the Jokinen debackle.

Plecks + Subban/Fisher or Latendresse + 1st for J Bow is more than enough for a UFA. As a few astute posters already mentioned that's more than Atl got for Hossa when he was a UFA and look how that worked out for Pittsburgh.

I don't see Higgins going anywhere anytime soon for anyone. He's too much a Habs guy to be moved.

Seriously i would not overpay for this guy, the worst is the guy might ask more than Markov while not being as good. His only decent season in the +/- is 2006-2007 with +23, all the other seasons he was in the minuses.

You guys really want to give 3-4 players for him ? I would pass... he is overrated.

Higgins plus Pacs plus a first is dreaming. Gainey would never do that deal. Higgins and a First is more than enough. Tanguay only cost a first. It would be similar to paying 3 firsts for a rental who is not an elite talent. Thats more than the Habs got for Patrick Roy lol.

Because lesser players havent been traded for just as many prospects, picks, and players.

Habs fans just over-evaluate all of there prospects
