There is a review in post #700 in this thread. Story behind the story about that game.

As far as the fight, it looked better in the summary than the real match. Just holding on to each other, no real blows landed as I recall.

Tim P.'s column:

Quote:

Still, Coach John Stevens felt bad for those patrons already in their seats.

“He said those fans pay a lot of money to watch us play and that was not good enough for them to play that kind of money and see that kind of show, if you want to call it that,” Simon Gagne said.

Scott Hartnell recalled something else.

“He came in [between periods] and basically said we’re playing like a bunch of pansies,” Hartnell said.

And then came the third period.

Can't say I've ever heard a coach use the fans paying money as motivation for winning a game.

Just an unreal win. Great comeback. Looks like there is another group of Fightins in the Philly, the Flyers.

Also, if you live in Philly, the game will be replayed at 1:30 am this morning if you want to tape it or what not.

Oh, and MSE, ever searched YouTube for "Chris Nilan"?

What comes back is like a Who's Who: Terry O'Reilly, Nick Fotiu, Lindy Ruff, among many others, including an old fave of mine: Jay Miller -- who knows how many times those two went.

True story time. I had tix to the Boston-Montreal game here:

http://www.flyershistory.com/cgi-bin....cgi?H19860198

Planned on going until the day of the game when a friend called and said "Eric Clapton is playing a club (held like 500 people). Wanna go?" Decisions, decisions. Clapton won out.

Caps & Flyers are the scary teams IMO

Again...good comeback. That is a sign of a good team and games like this do wonders for team moral and team building.
You are very nice.

The Flyers getting totally jobbed on the hit on Alberts I'm sure is part of it. That situation was blown by the refs. I don't like to harp on refs, especially after wins, but that was embarrassing. Walker nailed Alberts in the numbers from a dangerous position -- should have been a routine boarding call. And then Walker wouldn't fight Alberts which was a totally ***** move and horse **** that Alberts got a double minor. I'll take Asham's instigating penalty if it means Walker got his punk ass handed to him. Good for Alberts for standing up for himself, and good for Asham to take care of business even though I'm sure he knew at the time what it would have meant.

What would have been dangerous was that Walker was eligible to come back, and you're subjecting him, but the Flyers made it a comeback instead. They should have called it a fight between Alberts and Walker, but since Walker turtled and showed what kind of guts he has and Asham came in, they decided the first fight didn't happen. If Walker got into two fights on the same play, he and Asham should have been thrown out, but they weren't. You're asking for a powder keg there, especially when the home team is angry and getting blown out.

The Flyers took a huge negative and somehow made it a positive.

What is that game doing on FlyersHistory.com?

Corson vs Neely sounds exciting.

How was Clapton?

At the game tonight, a random dude came up to me and asked me if I was Odin.

I replied, "Why yes, yes I am".

The guy who does the Flyers History site is doing one for the entire NHL. It is a sticky in the History of Hockey forum on HF. It is a work in progress. He is compiling box scores of every NHL game played as I understand it.

Clapton was fabulous, small venue made it even better.

Alberts played a pretty good game tonight.

Such an awesome game to watch. It really didn't feel like they were out of it even after goal 5

Hopefully he is being paid for that.

I'd like to see some old Kings box scores that's for sure.

Folks,

I was at work all day but Chainsaw called me at the end. What an incredible game to look back on. I'm really glad that Hartnell broke out tonight and potted the hatty. I haven't gotten a chance to read through the thread nor do I have the wherewithal to do it now.

Great job Flyers...you earned the win tonight with an incredible 20 minutes. If the team ever figures out how to play a full 60 it'll be something to behold.

This is on the Flyers' site:
Quote:

http://flyers.nhl.com/team/app/?serv...ype=2&gnum=414

The only time in club history that the team trailed by four or more goals in a game and won was February 23, 1988 at Detroit, when the Flyers trailed 5-1 and wound up winning the game 11-6.
I came across this game against Chicago that ended in a 5-5 tie when the Flyers trailed 5-1. In that game, John Marks set an NHL record for fastest two goals to start a game -- 33 seconds.

I'm disappointed I was at my own hockey game but the fact is I got Harts on my fantasy team and Hat tricks are rewarded handsomely in the leagues I'm in.

That being said I also have Dustin Brown on the same team. And Sykora on my other team.
