Trade Proposal

Flyer fan here.....

would you guys do this trade ?

Daniel Briere for Jaroslav Halak and 2nd rder?

I think Briere fits the montreal style than the philly style and goalie is the most pressing need for the team's future. Plus our top 2 centers are pretty good in richards and carter, and the flyers should be getting some more offensive re-inforcements soon with Claude Giroux and Van Riemsdyk.

Halak is a talent, and I'm sure he doesn't want to be Price's lifetime backup.

Yea Briere 'betrayed' the quebecois heritage and so forth, but do you guys do this deal if you're the Montreal GM?

If I were Holmgren, I do this deal. Yea it'll suck to lose Briere, he is a playoff performer , but Biron is just too inconsistent and isn't the answer to the future . (The series last year he looked like Bernie Parent, don't expect to see that kind of performance again). Also, the Flyers clear some Cap Space to maybe pursue Bouwmeester.

Briere is still in his prime and I think he will play even better in MTL's offensive system......

Such trade would have many problems:

1.) Habs would need to move additional salary to fit Briere's cap hit (6,5 million) under the cap.

2.) Habs would need a goalie back, since I doubt they are going to go to playoffs with Denis as backup.

3.) At this point Halak is much better value for dollar than practically any other possible back-up. Therefore Halak should only be traded for major improvement in other vital area

4.) Even though Habs only managed to score 1 goal against Lightning last night, goal scoring is not their primary issue and I don't really see Briere addessing any of the more important needs of the team

There's absolutely no way Briere could be dealt for Halak. His 6.5 million dollar contract is like an anchor keeping him in Philly, especially with the salary cap potentially decreasing next season.

From a pure player perspective, it might be something to think about, but factor in the finances and it's a non-starter.

I can't think of a team better than the Flyers who deserve to see that contract through to the end.

Lecavalier looked pretty disinterested last night...apart from spearing Plekanec I don't recall seeing him much.

This team needs to get bigger on our top 3 lines, not smaller.

Yes i am a flyers fan and I've been a "guest" here at HF for over a year now. I just really like Halak and wanted to see how the habs fans view this trade

Contract Wise, i have no problem with briere. The man is not overpaid. He performs well in clutch situations( check out his playoff performances with BUF and PHI), it's just that I would love to see the flyers get a goalie that's better than avg, and halak fits the bill. If the flyers had a better than average goalie, I am perfectly content with briere. Flyers have the best depth center in the whole league with Richards, Briere Carter. But they have Biron...ughh

I understand about the Briere hate.....but i hated Mark Messier too, but if the rangers had a deal back then to send him to philly....you get the drift

it just so happens my first post is on here....

deal with it

I'd do this deal in a NY minute....again not because I dislike Briere, but it's been since Hextall (pre-groin injury) that we have had a force in net. I really think Halak from the matches i've seen him has the potential to at least be a steady above average goaltender, and with the roster the flyers have should be enough to be really competitive for the cup year in year out.

That's why he signed a 10 year deal or 11 what ever it was

Briere can stay in Philly,it's better for his kids!!!

Not happening...it's salary cap for salary cap. Montreal will not take on Briere(not that we want him) and his contract without giving back the same amount of cap space. Besides we have too many ufa's to sign this year to pick up this anchor of a contract. Enjoy him in Philly though!

what about Lupul, 1st rounder, Nittymaki for Halak and Lapierre ?

As you can see, i'm a big fan of Halak....

you eat some salary then but Lupul is a fine player if you let him be with a line mate that's pass first , Nittymakii is a solid backup, and 1st rounder ....

I don't think Halak will be traded this year... and Lupul is the kind of player this team has too many of...

You should be worrying about getting defencemen this year... Goalies should be in the off season... maybe then Halak will be available...

Yea i should be worried getting D-men....from the injury list.

Parent, hatcher ( who I think has a handshake deal with Homer to play the last 7 gms of the year plus playoffs), Carle, Jones....

Plus Sbisa the rook has been good , and vaananen has been good too. I want a goalie dammit....a B-level goalie will do. A-levels are just too rare too find. You guys are really lucky you have 1 and possibly TWO!

You won't get far in the playoffs with these defencemen...

Biron robbed us last year, but you won't always face the habs in the playoffs and I highly doubt he'll make up for the defensive mistakes of your defenceman... except if you're playing Timonen and Coburn 40min a game...

If you talk about Richards, Carter or Coburn, maybe we'll take you seriously...

St. Louis would be a better choise. Better, shorter contract, better player. Probably better chance of being traded too.

wow I thought my offers were pretty fair....I mean if we're talking richards you'd be giving up Price plus a prospect.....but that isn't realistic, because as much potential as Price has, he isn't yet proven.....give me 2 good playoffs then we revisit this deal
