What kind of technical defect could an elevator produce a sound like gunshots or an explosions? If true, are they kinda like going to verify that elevator at one point....

Hope nothing bad happens.

I go to UdM so this could definitely have happened there as well; pretty scary.

When I was in High school our elevator actually caught the school on fire and everyone got to go home early.

I was THIS close to being involved in this ****.

If I had a real course today, and not just having to hand in a paper to the teacher, I would have left my house at 1 pm, taken the bus and gotten at the UQAM at around 1:35 pm (courses begin at 2)...and my course is RIGHT where the whole thing happened. If I had done this, I would probably still be locked into that class as we speak.

But I had a delay correcting the paper, so I left at 1:30 pm...I got there at 2:05 pm and just as I am about to enter the area where my class is, a security guard told me: ''C'EST UNE SITUATION D'URGENCE. VOUS NE POUVEZ PAS RENTREZ!'' (TRANSLATION: URGENT SITUATION, YOU CAN'T HEAD IN). I had awful Dawson like visions in my mind and headed right to the next exit ASAP. An exit where a police car was parked.

I spent the next hour walking outside around the UQAM, seeing TV trucks, police cars and an ambulance. It took so long for info to come out, even CJAD and 690 had NOTHING, but in front of one building one guy came out and said he heard on TV there was a gunman in there, which is what I feared.

Then reports came out no one was hurt...hoping everyone is OK.

Phew.

EDIT: My teacher just sent a mass email saying they just were allowed to head out, so they were locked in for 3+ hours.

People are only allowed to discuss if someone got hurt?

Sorry, I meant that it appears as if there was nothing serious. I think it was only firecrackers and stuff.

At least we can see that the Police learned from Dawson and previous shootings.

Police handled the Dawson situation very well, even if they were lucky to be nearby.

After two hours, they found a few exploded firecrackers, and a bag containing .22 caliber bullets and knives.
"In the top of the bag they have four or five bullets," said Pierre Luxon, a caretaker at the university.

Weird...

Here we go again. I had classes there last night.

They're now talking about some sort of explosive device.
