I'd take Mark Stuart over Hunwick. Team USA will need another physical, stay at home defenseman other than Komisarek...

Whitney, Ballard, Komisarek, J. Johnson, E. Johnson, Martin (Staurt 7th D)

Martin most assuredly will be on the team, he's a returnee if I'm not mistaken and is possibly the best defensive defenseman from the USA.

Rafalski
Martin
Ballard
Suter
Komisarek
Whitney
E. Johnson

Jack Johnson could also work his way in there by the time 2010 rolls around.

Hainsey is a defensive liablity. Unless he's completely changed as a player in Atlanta, as good as his numbers have been thus far, when you pick your defensemen for the Olympics, you want all of them to be able to play solid in their own end.

Besides, Ryan Whitney already fills the role of big soft offensive defenseman. It's about building a hockey team, not a fantasy team. That said, I wouldn't be surprised if neither Jack nor Ron make the 2010 roster.

Man, there's probably fifteen viable candidates. The U.S. brass will have their work cut out for them. If I had to pick six: *

Rafalski
Komisarek
Suter
Ballard
Martin
Whitney

* Seven will be taken, which means I would include Erik Johnson

Tough

Unlike most people, I doubt Jack Johnson makes it anywhere near the olympic team. I've heard from many LA fans that he is VERY overhyped. I'm of the opinion that he just sucks.

IMO for 7

Whitney - He'll make it even if he sucks defensively

Komisarek - Shutdown guy for the team

Erik Johnson - He'll provide all around play hopefully

Rafalski - He will be the offensive piece on D

Hainsey - The other offensive piece. I heard he has improved his defense over the years too

Suter - All around player

***Martin - Logical choice. Solid all around

meant to check on Rafalski rather then Liles:

Rafalski, Whitney, EJ, Suter, Komisarek, Gleason (other). JJ or Liles as 7th dman
