Another article in the Winnipeg Free Press today about Fleury's attempt to win an Allan Cup with the Steinbach North Stars senior AAA hockey team. Theo will be joining his younger brother Ted on the team which is hosting the national championship April 13-18.
He played his first game with the team last night, but the article didn't mention how he did (I'm guessing he's pretty out of shape at the moment). He hopes to get in at least 10 games with the team before the tourny begins. I assume he's flying out to Manitoba for the odd weekend of practice and games with the team (on his own coin). It will be interesting to see if he can still perform.
For those that remember this will be Theo's second attempt, as he tried to win the Allan Cup with the Horse Lake Thunder in Alberta in 2005 with former NHL tough guy Gino Odjick. Anyone remember how he did during that tourny? I'm pretty sure that team was crazy rough.
Anyways, Pat Falloon also won the cup a few years ago, but I don't remember the team or the year......
But let me say I do not for a second think that he will be making a comeback to the NHL. I just think it's cool he's trying to win the Allan cup, and I'll be able to watch him play live one more time.
