Alex Kovalev

Seen as a God by some fans in Montreal, not so much outside the fan base, his value is most likely somewhere in between.

No goals in his last 19 games but is still accumulating the assists in the mean time. He is wearing the "C" in Koivu's absence.

Fact to note that he's in the final year of his contract, paying him $4.5 million. He has a limited NTC preventing the Habs to trade him to a Western conference team until January 1st, 2009, after which the NTC is lifted.

Curious mind inquires: What is he worth?

From calgary a draft pick or prospect, and maybe a player like sarich, aucoin, bourque, conroy maybe even cammalleri if he is not going to resign who knows, but not straight up for kovalev in those cases

A low end second line forward, a decent prospect, and a 2nd or 3rd round pick.

He's old, hasn't scored in 19 games, and is a UFA in the summer.

Considering that Adrian Aucoin is also scheduled to become UFA this summer and that the salaries are comparable, would you say that a one for one trade would be fair for both teams? Just curious.

Could Pittsburgh be a good fit for him? I'm sure any player would be motivated [YES....EVEN Kovalev!] to play along-side Crosby.

I highly doubt Montreal trading him this season.

Not enough to entertain trading him.

I could see a team on the edge paying a 2nd and high-mid level prospect.

From a Calgary fans perspective i think that would work, but only when vandermeer returns

I don't know. It seems to me that he could be a good rental player for a team in the playoffs. If Montreal got a good young defenseman in Josh Gorges and a first rounder (Max Pacioretty) from San Jose a couple of years ago for Craig Rivet (), one would think that Kovalev would fetch much more, no?

No way. Kovalev can fetch way more than that.

He got a point per game last year, even if he in a scoring drought, he has has 22 points so far.
I think the return should be more. More like, 2nd line player + 2nd tier prospect + 1st or 2nd round draft pick.

I would say he would be traded most likely to teams like...

Washington
NJ
NYR
Pittsburgh

so lets see..

Washington : Eric Fehr, Viktor Kozlov

NJ: David Clarkson, Niklas Bergfors

NYR: Petr Prucha, Bobby Sanguetti, 2nd

Pittsburgh : Tyler Kennedy, 2nd Round Pick

No to Kennedy and a 2nd rounder for Kovalev but what about Kovalev, Latendresse and a '09 first rounder for Ryan Whitney and Miro Satan?

Out of Kovalev, you're getting a solid amount of points and some good PK'ing, I think that should bring a decent return. Even if he's on a huge goal-scoring drought. With that said, he's not getting traded, he's still one of our best scorers and has had 2 ppg seasons so far in Mtl(05-06 and 07-08)

Yep. He plays on our PK and he's pretty good at it too.

I would be very surprised if that happens. Kovalev seems to love playing in the NHL (especially here in Montreal). I think that many teams would be interested in him because he is a pretty good playoff performer.

Kovalev isn't a "Devils" type player and would give Sutter a MASSIVE heart attack after 2 games. We don't need another forward... we need a puck moving d-men that can play on the PP because as of right now, we have 5 forwards on our 1st unit with Langenbrunner and Rolston playing the points !!!

This feels like a deja vu post, but I think the value the Habs would place on him getting back on track with the Habs exceeds the value other teams would place on getting him in a trade. And that therefore the only way they'd end up trading him would be if they sunk into firesale mode after losing 20 games in a row leading up to the trade deadline.

The guy is really good at hogging the puck -- and that's a surprisingly useful skill on the PK.
