I'm hoping it's going to be an off year for you guys, for once, and finish with anything but a gold, so JVR, and the rest of Team USA, can have gold medals on their mantles.

Oh, gotcha'. I was assuming you guys got all the games up there. Luckily, the NHL Network is apparently going to be televising all Team USA games down here, so I'm sure there'll be plenty of people here writing about how JVR's doing.

The big question though will be if the USA coach will actually let JVR play the second period against Canada. If I remember last year's tournament, JVR got five minutes of ice time in the first, zero in the second, and only a few minutes in the third. And this was team USA's best player in the tournament last year.

Yeah, Team USA should play the top line of JVR-Colin Wilson-Jordan Schroeder till they drop.

A lot of people consider last year to have been an off-year solely because they lost a game.

Marshall said he was beaten by the 6'6 and 6'7 guys, Aulie and Myers. He said that Team Canada thinks being 6'6 makes you better suited to do the physical job. In short, it was Aulie or Marshall...

The 17 yo Ellis is only there for PP purpose, while Marshall would have been there for the physical presence and the PK...

Canada only took 12 forwards, so if someone gets hurt, they're in a bit of a pickle.

I assume you mean Ellis (as Tyler Ennis is a forward). He hasn't played forward at all in junior, but I could see if worse comes to worse they could slot him on the wing on the 4th line, as he has more offensive insincts then a lot of forwards.

We'll use this for the U-20 talk thread, I'm sure people will want to talk about more than just JVR, there's some other undrafted prospect too who we could end up with.

Anyone want to start a small fantasy pool?

I'll be attending most of the games Finland plays. I'm hoping the Flyers draft Toni Rajala (LW) or Joonas Nattinen (C) this June.

I like Nattinen, too. Haula is another choice. Too bad he didn't make the Finnish team.

They have the talent, but they're a little undersized up front. It'll just be a different style of play we'll be seeing from Canada this year.

It's always tough to tell before the tournament starts how strong the European teams will be. The gap is certainly closing between the old hats like Canada, USA, Russia, Sweden, etc. and the newbies like Germany, Latvia, etc.

All the Canadian games including exhibition games are on TSN. The medal games are also on TSN.

heres the link I posted a couple weeks ago about the scheduling.
Here I thought since I was home from school and NHL network is now on Verizon I was going to be able to see all the games. Little did I know the NHL network is part of a subscription plan that we don't have so I will not be able to see any of the games

Scored a couple of tix to the USA-GER game on Boxing Day.

Aside from JVR are there any other Flyer prospects in that game?

Got this from another thread. Apparently, Jon Blum was named the USA captain. I'm assuming JVR will then be named an alternate, but it doesn't have that listed in this link. I guess I'm a bit dissappointed that JVR wasn't named captain, but I'll be happy as long as he has a strong tournament, like last year.

http://communities.canada.com/thepro...b/default.aspx

"More good news on the Vancouver Giants' world junior front -- Jon Blum has been named captain of the U.S. world junior team."

EDIT:

Wow, I'm surprised, but it looks like JVR didn't even get a letter. I know it's not really a big deal, but it would be nice to see him recognized as a leader of the team, even though I'm sure he already has that status "in the room", and on the ice, obviously. It may just speak to the quality and depth of Team USA.

http://www.oursportscentral.com/serv...es/?id=3755094

Defenseman Jonathon Blum (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) has been named captain of the 2009 U.S. National Junior Team...In addition, forward Colin Wilson (Greenwich, Conn./Boston University) and defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk (New Rochelle, N.Y./Boston University) have been named alternate captains.

According to someone on the general board, US WJC thread, Team USA beat Latvia 13-2, in an exhibition game tonight. He said that the JVR-Wilson-Schroeder line was dominant, as expected, and that JVR had 2 goals and an assist, from what he could remember. Being that it's Latvia, and the score was that lopsided, I guess you can't really take much from the game, but it's a start. Team USA plays there 2nd and final exhibition game against Russia, on Tuesday, so I'm sure that'll be a much better test.

EDIT:

Game summary: http://www.usahockey.com/world_junio...tailedNews=yes

Not even a letter? That's kind of bizarre given his tenure with the team.

That's what I thought. I thought, on top of being on the team for 3 straight years, that JVR was sort of a "darling" of the USNTDP. I guess not.
