Jones is not playing tonight, nor is Biron.

Everything was in place for Flyers defenseman Randy Jones to join the club for the first time this season Tuesday night at the Wachovia Center against Colorado.

But coach John Stevens hinted on Monday that he was thinking of giving Jones another, full practice day before playing him.

Stevens said this morning that Jones will not play.

I do not think that paying rusty Jones with rookie Sbisa is such a good idea thats why I would leave Alberts in the lineup and give Sbisa some rest.

Anyway, I hope Jones plays and scores 4-5 points in his 1st game. So we can tade him 3 weeks from now.
I said he sticks, not stinks. You agreed with everything i said

No they won't. They're in love with Sbisa. So much so that they still haven't realized how hard they're driving him into the ground. Part of that is the fact they've been so hot that it masks what's really going on.

Jones was sent to the Phantoms.

The Flyers finally placed center Danny Briere on long-term injury on Tuesday afternoon, as they prepare to get Randy Jones back in the lineup.

Jones is fully recovered from right hip surgery (torn labrum) while Briere is still being bothered by a groin injury.

The Flyers went into the morning with a cap number of $56.03 million, leaving them about $700,000 room. To add Jones, who earns $2.75 million, they had to make a roster move.

Briere earns $6.5 million. He was placed on LTI retroactive to Dec. 3 when he went out of the lineup. This clerical move cleared cap space as the Flyers’ cap number fell to about $52.3 million. Briere is eligible to return on Dec. 27.

“We’re going to play Randy Jones [Wednesday] with the Phantoms,” said general manager Paul Holmgren. The Phantoms host Binghamton.

There is a set maximum that any player can be sent down to the minors for conditioning. I don't remember if it's a maximum number for AHL games (like 5 or 6) or a maximum number of days (like 10day or 2 weeks or something). I do remember reading it though when I went through the curren CBA but I just don't remember the specifics.

Flyers' Jones returns from hip surgery
Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Randy Jones has been recalled from a conditioning assignment at the club's AHL affiliate after missing the first 30 games of the season recovering from hip surgery.

Jones underwent the procedure on his right hip October 15. He played two games for the Philadelphia Phantoms this week and posted two assists.

The 27-year-old blueliner set career bests last season with five goals and 26 assists for 31 points in 71 games. He added two assists in 16 playoff games, as Philadelphia reached the Eastern Conference finals last spring.

A few days ago I read he was still targeting 12/26 (jesus ****, I can't believe that's less than a week away and I'm still not done finals!). Haven't heard anything to indicate that's changed.
