Only caught the tail end of the Sundin comments..

- Sundin is a great player, would be a great addition, however "you don't want to get too far of yourself"

Talking about Lui's injury now.
- this is not a long term, "devastating" injury
- Luongo is "recovering well"

From LicktheEnvelope from CDC:

Gillis:

"We talked about Sedins, Ohlund, Raymond... they went well"

"Not much more to say other than what has been said. Decision will come Thursday. The talk was positive. There's no blemishes that have been brought up so we're confident"

lol @ Taylor "If i'm a Vancouver fan i'm feeling really optimistic! am I wrong!?"

Gillis: "lol" "We've been patient and persistance. We know his major decision was whether he wanted to play and he only just made it recently"

"He wanted to get some training in before he decided if he even wanted to play and that happened last week. We knew the major hurdle was if he even wanted to play. We've sent him broken down game DVDs and shown him how we play. We don't know what more we can do."

"I'm satisfied we've made the right analysis on how competitive are team would be and we've stuck with the plan. Until we actually get the player we don't want to get ahead of ourselves."

I managed to find a radio to listen to and I will say once they started talking about Luongo Gillis started talking a lot more naturally and comfortably. He sounded really really cautious when talking about Sundin. Take that for what you will.

And going by how trade deadlines usually are for us that means:

a) We do nothing.

b) We really are looking at taking Gomez.

Awesome synopsis, thanks kid.

Well, we'll just have to wait it out.

The best news out of that interview was the Louie news!

I hope to have him back around the beginning of Januray after hearing that.

I get the feeling Sundin is coming here though...

I thought Gillis sounded less weary than he has in a long time and fairly optimistic. He may have been careful with what he said but I didn't get the feeling whatsoever that he was thinking Sundin would sign in NY. I feel more optimistic after that interview not less but am trying not to get my hopes up.

To me that's not equal.

Wellwood, in 26 games, has more goals than Morrison did last year in 39 games, while spending a lot more time with 4th liners than Morrison did.
.86*62 = 53
.67*82 = 55
Now, I'd take the higher PPG player each time because someone else is playing his spot when he's out, but I'd say purely offensively it's actually quite close.

And since you used the PPG in the first example:

Morrison last year = .64ppg
Wellwood so far this year = .61ppg.

Again, my point isn't to have some detailed comparison, but just point out we're not in that much different a spot (Forsberg v Sundin).

The Canucks are scoring more because they are playing a more offensive system. Isn't that obvious?

, that skit was hilarious. I've never seen that nor heard of a Mr. Kennedy wrestler before.

Glad to hear some people are a little more optimistic after that interview, I really wish I could have heard it, especially the Luongo stuff.

Barry reps Raymond as well? Give them all long-term deals so we don't have to hear from him ever again.

After reading that Trade\Rumors thread and its incessant usage of "Mats" I couldn't help but be reminded of that classic Simpsons where Homer thinks every word being said is Moe. After all this crap, I'm glad MSN is reporting that he will make a decision Thursday: http://sports.sympatico.msn.cbc.ca/a...mid=nhl-sundin

As pissed as I am with him, I won't exactly shun the guy if he actually signs with us. Unless he Messiers.

VANCOUVER -- Canuck general manager Mike Gillis says Mats Sundin will announce whether he is going to play for the Vancouver Canucks or New York Rangers on Thursday. But Sundin’s agent, J.P. Barry, isn’t so sure about that.

About three hours after Gillis told reporters in Vancouver early this afternoon that Sundin would announce his decision on Thursday, Barry told the Vancouver Sun that may not be the case.

“I did tell Mike that Thursday would be the earliest,” Barry said in a telephone interview. “I am not going to hold Mats to any kind of deadline. He has never been held to one before and he’s not going to be held to one now. He says he is going to try and make a decision by the end of this week.

“It may not be Thursday if he struggles with the decision. He is going to make up his mind this week, is what he has told us. But we are not going to put any deadline on him.”

Gillis met this morning in Vancouver with Barry and later told reporters that he expected a Sundin decision on Thursday.

“He is going to make a decision on Thursday about the final destination,” Gillis said following the Canucks’ practice at GM Place. “We reiterated our position and formalized our offer moving forward. We feel good about our team and where we sit and what we have to offer. We’ll see how it plays out.”

Gillis would not disclose his level of optimism about Sundin signing in Vancouver. The Canucks have offered him a deal worth $10 million US a season, which pro-rated would amount to a little over $5 million if Sundin joined the team after the NHL roster freeze expires on Dec. 27.

Gillis dismissed eastern media reports suggesting Sundin has already decided on the Rangers and is just waiting to see if New York can successfully clear enough salary cap space to add him to its roster.

“We wouldn’t be going through this process if a decision had been made,” Gillis said. “Every time I have spoken to Mats he has conducted himself with the utmost integrity. He is very careful about what he says and I find it difficult to believe that after going through this process that we wouldn’t get a clear indication at the outset as to what he planned. I have a tremendous respect for the guy and I just don’t think he would be leaking anything out about what his plans were without coming to us first because we have been here since day one.”

Barry also dismissed a Toronto radio report that Sundin and the Rangers already have a deal in place.

The Gillis interview is on CDC now if anyone wanted to catch that.

I don't care about the skeptics, I'm still keeping hope that on Thursday, he will sign with the Canucks. Can you imagine? Linden night, then Sundin night!?! Thursday can't come soon enough...

[edit] or Friday or Saturday or Sunday.... hahah

I personally don't think Sundin is the Jesus Christ everyone is making him out to be and I hope we only sign him for one year. However, I'd like him on this team. With that said the only thing I'm really feeling after reading all the posts in this thread is that Markus Naslund is a little ****** and I regret being a fan of his.
