I want the Habs to pick him up badly. He'd be a huge improvement on O'Byrne.

Two-way contracts have nothing to do with being claimed or not.

Two-way contracts, for the most part, is a salary based thing.

When a player is waived on Friday, you don't find out if they were claimed or cleared until Monday right?

I like Lundin. He's young, he's smart. He's got talent but take off the Tampa goggles for a minute. The kid is softer than a pillow and he has had a BAD few games here recently.

I'd be a bit upset if he gets claimed but it is HARDLY the deal some of you are making out to be. I guess whatever you gotta do to get your shots in at a management that actually tried to build a winning team instead of watching the European leagues for a guy they could sign for cheap to play alongside stars.
I haven't seen him play this year yet, but he looked good last year.

Plus, it's hard to call a player willing to block shots soft. If Dallas claimed him, he'd lead the team in that category.

With all the injuries, Dallas threw out:

Grossman-Daley
Sydor-Niskanen
Janik-Hutchinson

against the Red Wings.

It would just seem right if he ended up in Dallas. The Lightings unwanted players seem to succeed here, and the Stars castoffs do well for the Bolts.

It's kind of wild over the last year and a half, Dallas has acquired a ton of players either from Tampa or that played for Tampa recently:

Brad Richards
Johan Holmqvist
Doug Janik
Andrew Hutchinson
Dan Jancevski

If the Lightning were stupid for waiving a player like Lundin what does it say about the other 29 teams who passed on him?

Yes, he cleared. Best possible outcome for all parties involved.

Quote:
Defenseman Mike Lundin cleared waivers at noon today, meaning he will be assigned to AHL Norfolk. Coach Rick Tocchet spoke about Lundin needing to be more aggressive on the puck. Center Chris Gratton also reported to the Norfolk, though he did not play in Friday's game.

He cleared, what a relief. Hopefully this'll help him in the long run, and maybe someone will feed the boy a sammitch every once in a while.

ZOMG Tampa is so stupid for waiving a smallish/soft defenseman. So many teams are going to pick him up and we can make more Tampa jokes! Oh...wait. He cleared? Yah he sucks anyway, so when are they moving the team?

Wait, so now that he cleared, he was worth waiving? I seem to recall plenty of Bolts fans stunned by the decision to waive him, and relieved that he cleared. It was still a dumb move by Tampa management (what else is new), they're just lucky no other NHL team needed/wanted him.

Apparently considering no other NHL teams wanting him he is. Going to the AHL is the best thing for Lundin. If he stayed up and continued to stay in the pressbox or get very limited minutes his career potential would probably be a decent defenseman in the KHL, now that he can go to the AHL and work on his game he might have the potential to become a decent #5 in the NHL.

It's just laughable that people think the Lightning are waiving anything more than a bad #6 non physical non scoring defenseman. People begging their GMs to pick him up in this thread proves that people don't watch him play, better players have cleared waivers before.

Besides, if anybody deserves blame for Lundin being waived Tortorella, Feaster and Lundin all deserve equal blame. There is no excuse for Feaster and Tortorella to either not know the CBA or not realize Lundin needed to be in the AHL last year.

When he gets called back up, will he be subject to re-entry waivers?

My comment was just poking fun at the reactions this thread got. Tampa is insane for waiving him, this team and this team will no doubt pick this kid up. This proves that 1) none of them have ever seen a Tampa game outside of when they're playing their team and 2) if any of you were actually making decisions for your team, you'd be driving your team into the cellar.

I just think it's funny. For a very brief moment when there was a chance someone's team could claim him, he's pretty good. Now that he cleared waivers and still remains Tampa property, people can go back to bashing him and calling him garbage

It does seem weird that the NHL's 29th place team and the 30th place team are such frequent trade partners. Maybe Tampa's trying to make sure they get Tavares by gradually trading thier roster to Dallas.

Surprisingly, Janik and Hutchinson have both played very well in the few games they've seen ice time.

Janik did have one bad game, and it was pretty bad. His turnovers directly led to 2 goals in a loss to Philadelphia.

Other than that, solid play from both of them.

No, he's still on his entry level contract.

(which therefore has to be a 2-way contract with AHL salary under the re-entry waiver threshold)

Why, it is true? He gets overpowered by physical teams.

But I mean this is going to be good for him, not only can he work on bulking up but on developing some offense in his game, rather than just sound positioning and outlet passes. He will go from being on third pairing minutes in Tampa to top pairing minutes with PP and PK time. He is a legit NHL dman, just how high can his upside be, this time in Norfolk can only help find that out and develop it, last season wasnt a fluke and he will prove that soon.

Some people here love to overrate youth. Once again the NHL GM's show why they have their jobs, and you don't.
