But at least if the Habs are taking 11 penalties, Komi's are gonna hurt people.

O'Byrne will be out, our forwards will once again be able to play without looking backwards if #3 is on the ice...

Better start than last year.

But we were great last year so...

I guess we're great this year....just not enough so.

Come on, it will fix itself.

Ya uhm, the highly ridiculous part in your post was that Bob needs to address the fans.

No, he doesn't.

Then there's injuries.

Why do people care about dominating now? What, are we trying to win the President's Trophy? Are people upset that the Bruins are ahead of us? What is it? Like I said in the other topic, our play hasn't been very inspiring all year, but let's at least wait until the season is over before declaring it a "nightmare". There's still 50 games left to play.
VERY MUCH A POSSIBILITY?

Honestly if you take ALL the good things from this season and even forget about the bad things, i still don't think its "very much a possibility".

The same trend has been developping ALL season.

Don't worry guys there are still 70 games to the season! You'll see!

Some charts, draw your own conclusions.

This pretty much visualizes the streakyness of the team. A win increments the streak by 1 pt, a loss decrements it by 1, an OT Loss leaves it as is.

This is the win% throughout the season, kind of self-explanatory. The beginning of each season should usually be ignored because it's highly volatile.

This is the goal-differential, again kind of self-explanatory.

This thread is inspired by a game which we took 11 penalties to 0 in the first 2 periods?

two key players to this team aren't playing, remember?

and you doubt "the habs" by judging them against a habs team you watch play against carolina tonight?

"the habs" and this team we watch play is not the same team.

Stuff like this is why we get mocked so often on the main board. There are, what, 20 other teams in the league that would be happy with our record? And here we are whining that, because we didn't beat the Hurricanes in December, or because we lost 3 out of 4, we've lost the Cup and the season is a wash. The Flyers lost 10 straight games last year and made it to the conference finals. The Red Wings had a similar stretch where they couldn't win a game right before the playoffs. And I don't even need to mention the fact that, believe it or not, the best teams in the regular season don't always win the Cup. In fact, they usually don't.

So turn off your TV and stop watching if you're so convinced our season is in the tank. The rest of us will try to stay at least slightly grounded in reality.

I swear if more people will use the 100th aniversary thing as an excuse to not having a perfect season I'll take a break from these boards.. for the rest of the league our 100th means JACK SHIET, GET OVER IT. This is in other words a season just like the rest of them. There is no red carpet, we have to earn victories like everyone else. And no, bob Gainey shouldn't sacrifice our future in order to win a cup on this specific date.

Especially after a game like the one we saw tonight.

People complaining about us not winning that game give me the impression that they just got in, checked the final score, and immediately got on HF to complain.

So you wouldnt take a Cup this year? If Bob has a chance to win this year by picking up players he does.....this year means more than you think it does

Who's making significant trades? This is my biggest complaint with the cap and current salary structure. The new NHL is boring, there isn't any movement until the deadline, and it sucks.

Do you think BG should make a deal, just for the sake of it? I knock BG pretty hard, I'm not his biggest fan.. but what can he do?

Injury aren't helping. But we can't be in 1st all year every year. **** happens. Who thought Boston would to the beast in the east? Not me that's for damn sure. I thought they were going to finish 5-9. Last year we were supposed to not only miss the play-offs but finish quite low... like 13th or something. People though Detroit was a lock for the repeat but now no one is sure. SJ? BOS? PHI? WAS? PIT? DET? NYR? What I'm getting at is that team sometimes do better or worse than they're supposed to.

Kovalev had a fantastic year last year. A statistical annomally. We lost last year's 3rd highest scoring defensemen to FA. While Im not particularily crushed by the lost, you have to think our 29th ranked PP would be better if we could have found a place for him on our roster. We had 7 skaters with 50+ points and several players who surprised and played well beyond expectations.

I'm not saying I don't want my team to succeed. Just pointing out that we did outstanding last REGULAR season and I for one did not expect us to do that well again, especially not Kovalev whereas some people are yelling to burn him at the stake for by on pace for 21 less points then last year.

On the brightside we are doing better than we did last year at the same time so there is still time to pull of some mid-season heroics and retake our thrones from Boston who I hope to god is this years 2007-08 Senators. If not than I say "**** happens, let's get it done in the post-season"
