Tollefsen is out for 4 to 6 weeks to undergo arthroscopic knee surgery.

Tollefsen is on the IR as of today, and will undergo arthroscopic knee surgery. Out 4-6 weeks.

Maybe the Rangers would like Klesla?

The Rangers appear desparate to shed salary so I don't see them getting help from teams by giving them a 2nd or 3rd round pick. I'm not saying Rozsival might not be worth the pick but if the Rags want to sign Sundin they aren't the ones holding the cards since they have salary that has to be cleared.

That said, OKT could be had (aside from the IR thing....) and would be a good basis to start this discussion.

Rozi is easily worth a healthy OKT and two 2nds.

As slow as Rozi has started this year, I don't think there would be a shortage of teams who would offer a mid-range defender and a 2nd rounder for him.

I think that the Rangers would be willing to take a deal like that to get him off the books for the extra cap space.

I don't think there is a single team in hockey that would offer that for Rozival NOW given his contract. In fact, I don't think you could begin to get a 2nd rounder straight up for Rozival at this point in time. I'll take it one step further - I believe Rozival will easily clear waivers (at least at this point in the season).

Flash forward a few years when the front loaded end of the contract is paid off, and things will be a lot different.

Things would be also different if the Blueshirts ate substantial salary in return though. If the Ranger$ were willing to take on a bad contract in return, then it might work.

Well, c'mon now. You can't hardly expect us to take all of your bad defenseman contracts at once, can you?

Backmans contract is up at the end of the yr, correct?

Rangers call up Potter, sit Backman as the #7.

There isn't a chance Dallas would pass up that opportunity. At least, I don't think so.

I don't think that's actually too bad of an idea.

Rozi has consistently been significantly better than Tyutin (comparing his time as a Ranger, haven't seen much of Toots since he's been on CLB).

CLB gets two extra years of a better defensemen albeit at a higher price (and right handed shot for their powerplay)... Rangers get cap relief.

So do you value players only off of what their, recent, short term play?

Two seasons ago Rozsival put up better offensive numbers then 8 teams highest paid defeneder. Last season, he was better than 13 teams highest paid defender, that's almost 50% of the teams in the league. I'm willing to bet they would have gladly paid his salary instead and considering those numbers if he continues to do that, which he's about on pace to do, he's worth his contract, especially as a right handed defenderman.
