Brendan Shanahan vs Kevin Stevens

I posted a Neely-Shanahan poll and Cam ran away with it and this one was suggested. Again you have two prototype Power Forwards who could play the entire game.

I think that Shanahan has an edge here. What do you all think.

Stevens IMO was more dominate for a little stretch, but career wise Shannahan wins.

Also where you play is where you play but when Stevens was in his Prime playing for those Penguin teams they were stacked with talent. Shanny had some darn talent teams in Detroit but I think those Pittsburgh teams had more talent. Its close though.

I agree. Is this thread about who was better over their careers, or during their prime like the Neely one?

I gotta go with Ahhhtie.

Shanahan had the better career, injury ruined Stevens'. But given the choice of both in their prime, I'll take Stevens.

Shanahan was better, but Stevens played with Mario.

after thinking about it

I would like to change my vote to Stevens.

I forgot how dominant he was both physically and talented prior to having his forehead crushed like a potato chip that just got stepped on.

The very next season after that collision with Pilon Stevens was a shell of his former self.

Who knows what Shanahan would have been like after that.

Stevens' success wasn't due to playing with Mario.

The year the Pens won their first cup, Mario missed all but 26 games of the regular season. Stevens had 86 points, a number Shanahan has only eclipsed three times in a 15+ year injury-free career.

Besides, Shanahan got to play with Hull and Yzerman.

Stevens was more dominant in his prime, unfortunately, that didn't last very long. Overall Shanahan has obvioulsy had the better career. I voted for Stevens assuming the question was who was better in his prime.

Shanahan.

Stevens was good, but the linemates Shanny had never wore the number 66, and I think that was a much bigger difference than most people here are willing to admit.

Voting for Shanny over Neely would have been a homer vote. But not over Stevens.

He also played on some horrible New Jersey teams, and in Hartford!

Shanahan, easily. MUCH better shooter, fighter, passer, everything except skater. Had better individual seasons, had the better career. No knock on Stevens, but he had one really good year, when Mario got him 50 goals by shooting the puck off of Stevens' stick and legs.

I guess that I didnt specify that well enough. Lets just go with their Primes. I will still go with Shanny.

The Blues teams had talent but they also had huge holes on them. He didnt play on really good teams until he got to motown.
