This thread topic, btw, is the number one reason we should wait for confirmation on these rumors before posting things as exclamatory, and inflammatory (at least on the main board) threads.

He’ll end up going to the Hossa route, no contract, and sign with whoever he wants in the offseason. That also means Florida probably gets screwed.

Guaranteeing that your get a mid-20’s number 1 defenseman is worth losing a solid prospect though.
If we don't get Bouwmeester then so be it...Keep Benn and sign maybe Beauchemin (UFA),Wisniewski(RFA), Leopold(UFA), Boynton(UFA), Komisarek(UFA), Oduya(UFA), A.Greene(UFA), Mara(UFA), Kuba(UFA), Morris(UFA), Malik(UFA), Van Ryn(UFA) or Ohlund(UFA). Any of those players could help this team without sacrificing the future!

But see... there'd been nothing to indicate that other than idle speculation by Heika.

A better title would have been "DMN speculates Zubov considering retirement"

Btw, stop antagonizing the BJs fans. They're whiny enough without something to actually whine about.

Columbus fans are turning into the new Oiler fans, who really really hate Dallas without any reciprocal feelings from Stars fans.

You're from Edmonton. It doesn't count.

But I mean in general. Oil fans got really riled up after Stars games and Stars fans, while enjoying teasing them, really didn't care all that much.

What about Ryan Whitney?

With a $4 million cap hit and at least an additional $2.5 million (Buyout: $3.85 - $1.333) coming off because of Avery, Dallas could still take a run at Bouwmeester, but have a more than adequate fall back. Talk about a completely revamped defense. I would think Robidas, plus more, would have to go for Whitney though. The only reason Whitney is rumored to be available is the Penguins cap situation next year.

Bouwmeester-Niskanen
Whitney-Zubov
Grossman-Daley
Fistric

It's fun to pretend at least, but I do think Whitney could be an option. A trade for Whitney would probably only happen in the offseason unless the Penguins though Robidas would help them more than Whitney in the playoffs.

Because we usually dominate the Oilers every year, that's why, lol

Forgive my ignorance but I know that hip replacement surgery is a huge deal that is incredibly difficult to rehabilitate and recover from. But we aren't talking about replacement, are we? Should just plain hip surgery really be career threatening? I know he's 38, and all. Like I said, I don't really know.

Just says hip surgery, but it'll still likely take him out for the year, unfortunately. Hopefully he'll be back next year, as I wouldn't want him to rush back in the playoffs again.
