If anyone is wondering why Spezza's numbers aren't as high as usual, you have to look at the change of coaching. Right now he's being pushed to become a more rounded defensively sound player and that generally involves taking fewer risks than he has in previous years. This was discussed at length before the start of the season.

Watching him now, there has been a notable change in the manner he's played his games. There's going to be a bit of a dropoff in offensive production through the process, that was expected, however I'm also expecting him to start producing offense in other ways as he feels more comfortable with the style of play thats been asked of him.

In all honesty, Heatley and even Alfredsson have been bigger defensive liabillities lately. Spezza has actually been one of our better players even when the entire team has been struggling.

Can people please stop posting ludicrous proposals.

Yes Spezza isn't playing as well as usual this year, he's still on pace for 34 goals and 60 points on an off year. Leclaire has the worst save % in the league and is on pace for 10 wins. That's quite a difference. Tyutin is not what the Sens are looking for.

To counter:
To Columbus : Antoine Vermette
To Ottawa: Alexandre Picard & Pascal Leclaire

While Leclaire has been garbage this year he may have potential in the future, and Picard would give the Sens 2 players with the same name, which would be awesome!

You didn't just put Picard in there for the comedy it would cause in Ottawa did you

I think one reason why Jackets' fans are reluctant to part with Brassard is that over the course of this season it has been apparent that he is the type of player that should end up with a C on his sweater. He plays with passion and drive (more than Nash appears to).

I can't comment on Spezza with this issue. But Brassard seems to have the "intangibles" in spades.

For someone who is in their early 20's being injured that often, I don't want to know what happens when Jason Spezza is in his late 20's early 30's.
Brassard is out for the year with a shoulder injury...that seems to be a bigger issue than Spezza's injury record.

Dude, you do know hockey is played on ice right? The last 3 seasons Spezza had 87 goals and 269 points. That is 29 goals 90 points a year and two of those years he scored 34 goals. The guy is on the 2nd tier of stars in the NHL.

Leclair had one great year. Do you know how many goalies in the NHL have done that. What is Jim Carrey doing now? Lalime has had a decent career but nothing close to his rookie year. Leclair has some value but so far this year he has been terrible.

As for people not willing to give up Brassard to get Spezza. You are smoking crack! Brassard, Umberger a first and a prospect and now we're talking.

Brassard's out for the year so he ain't gonna be traded for anybody.

Also 99% of the time teams like Columbus will give a 1st round pick 4-5 years to see if they'll fit before they ship them out (see Zherdev) and 1st round picks but likely lottery teams seldom get traded.
