I'd agree. Honestly, he hasn't made a mistake thus far, which is beyond encouraging as far as I'm concerned. And the way he deals with players using his agent experience is absolutely brilliant.

Sundin, SOB (my second favorite Nuck behind Hansen), Johnson (who's been awesome in his role and honestly we've been missing a pure shut-down center since Chubarov. Kesler is more of a two way top six player at this point) Hordichuk, Davison and restructuring the front office.
Is there legitimately anyone at this point who would rather have Nonis? I personally hated Dave Nonis and his reign here and don't get the minority on these boards that dig him.

Gillis has done an amazing job, easily matches Nonis' entire tenure here in just six months. Closest thing to a mistake is having to pay for the Pettinger contract for Tampa, but you know who brought in the useless slug.

I think not firing Delorme was/is his biggest mistake. But then again, it is tough to really know what is going on behind closed doors. Given Delorme's history with the Canucks organization, it may not have been easy to just fire him.
Judging by our last draft, is Delmore really a problem? I know it's too early to judge but I doubt any Canucks fans were disatisfied with the last draft (I personally am excited about Suave and Hodgson)

wow outside of sabourin, sanford, and pettinger is there anyone on either of battle axe's lists that are still in the nhl?
Sopel (already mentioned), Jaffray (Canucks), and Weaver (Blues).
Shannon (Ottawa), Fitzgerald (Canucks), Schultz (Minnesota), and Green (Anaheim) are all on their teams AHL affiliate with Shannon seeing some NHL action this year.
The rest have either retired or are playing in Europe/Russia.
A few little nit-picks (otherwise, this is an outstanding thread. 19nazzy, a tip of the hat to you, sir):
Dan Gendur was signed to a three-year entry level contract, not a one year deal.
It would be nice to cite which areas Dean and Marois scouted in the section about their dismissal. I looked it up in the link to the thread and it's Saskatchewan for Dean and Quebec for Marois, if you wanted to add it.
I do have to laugh that Smyl was shuffled around twice in a three month span, and that they're both "promotions".

It's also worth noting, though I never saw it officially announced anywhere, that Darryl Young has been added to the scouting staff on Canucks.com since Gillis was hired. A quick search turns up that he's scouted the QMJHL in the past, so I'm assuming he's doing the same now.
Luc Bourdon wasn't a safe pick at all. Marc Staal would have been a safe pick. Luc Bourdon was a project, home run type pick. He had the tools but it was a question as to whether he put it all together.

A lot like Dion Phaneuf in that regard. But if Phaneuf or Bourdon didn't reach their potential, they still would have been solid top-four defenders. In that way Bourdon was a safe pick.

I don't know if I'd agree with that. Phaneuf was seen as a safe pick because he was a physical defensive defenseman with questionable offensive upside who happened to break out offensively after being drafted (much like Marc Staal, actually). Bourdon wasn't really a safe pick because the biggest question about his play going into the draft was about his ability to play defense.
