Last year I was pretty low on Mara. My opinion of him really turned around when he signed to play here for a discount. That to me is a true New York Ranger. It doesn't hurt that he's been playing good, physical hockey this entire season.

But it's also not a good thing when the team relies on Paul Mara to do it's dirty work. OT: Orr's got to start getting his nose dirty again.

I agree with this, unless his resigning interferes with the signings of Z and Dubi, etc.

I hope you're wrong.

Same here, I think he took a lot of unwarranted heat last year. I don't know why some people were bashing him. Even this year, there's no surprise at him at 3, with Girardi's stellar play he's allowed Mara's stellar play be lost in the mix.

And I'm still going to hope Rozsival finishes at 20-25 in defenesman scoring and gets dealt during the offseason for some picks and prospects.

Correct... ANd he's playing physical now too.

He didn't deserve any credit last year and was the worst of the bunch excluding Backman.

He's just improved significantly although he still stinks passing the puck.

very cool to see. hopefully the day will come down the road that Staal's name could be in the running for the Norris.

Mara, Kalinen & Rosy just need to keep it simple. Whenever they start to think and get 'creative' I say "Uh oh"

I was actually thinking about Mara. Do you see him do more, offensively, with Rozsival's minutes and in Rozsival's situations, or does he end up being that guy exposed by playing above his head?

I dunno, I think Mara's solidness has come from his focus on the defensive side. Sometimes he jumps in, and when he does, he does it well, but I think he's in a really good groove right now and I wouldn't want that broken up.

ive liked mara since that interview in the playoffs against Pittsburgh last year. he showed good leadership and he seemed really fired up. looks like he is bringing that same tenacity this year.

not to mention he will also scrap and stick up for teammates when necessary. and not in the out of the blue surprise fashion you might see from Zherdev or Rosival.

I think he'd be over his head. Not because I think he lacks the talent, but because he'd be juggling too many roles. If he takes over for Rozsvial that means he's logging big-time minutes, is expected to contribute offensively and maintain his role as a tough-guy / defensively responsible blue-liner. That's a pretty tall order for the guy. Hell, it's a tall order for anyone.

It's interesting actually -- just based entirely on the numbers in terms of goals against, Redden's numbers aren't horrible. Kalinin and Rozsival are a different story.

At least when Redden's on the ice they're scoring some goals. New York's been heavily outscored at 5-on-5 with Kalinin and Rozsival out there.

Judging by the link you posted, Redden is nowhere near as bad as many Ranger fans have made him out to be. Flawed and overpaid? No argument. A walking disaster? Not even close.
