The Flyers are banged up on the front line. Center Danny Briere is out until early January with a groin injury, and center Glen Metropolit has missed the last two games with a slightly strained lower back.
Holmgren, whose team hosts Ottawa tonight, said he would not know until today if the Flyers would recall a player (Andreas Nodl?) from the Phantoms to replace Upshall.
"It depends on Metro," he said.
Metropolit has been improving and may be able to play tonight. If he cannot, there's also a chance the Flyers will dress defenseman Lasse Kukkonen and move him to the front line.
Holmgren said Briere was "coming along nicely" and would join the club in Vancouver on Dec. 30. He is not expected to be able to play until Jan. 2 (in Anaheim) or Jan. 3 (in Los Angeles).
Before Briere returns, the Flyers will have to clear about $2 million to fit him under the $56.7 million salary cap.
Gonna have to miss this one. I don't think the girlfriend would appreciate me bailing on her birthday to watch the Flyers. Horrible timing.
Until I realized you lived in Canada, I was going to say you should have taken your girlfriend to the game for her birthday like my girlfriend is doing for me . But I guess that would be a pretty long drive.

My girlfriend already knows that Flyers time is my time. I mean you can't get out of the birthday unless she's a fan, but have you taught her that Flyers time is your time?
Yeah we understand each other every other game, I just can't get out of this one. Last year there was an important football game on her birthday and I snuck a few peaks at the score while we were out and she freaked out. She understands my sports obsession 364 days a year, just not her birthday.

That'd be sweet if I could do that. Hopefully she'll do it for me though, I'd appreciate it more.

How do you seriously come up with something that retarded? Did you see that with Upshall out there is a forward spot to fill so you put all the names in a hat and pulled one out?
Look at the names being bandied about. Stevens even considers Kukkonen a viable option as a forward now.
