Timonen and Hartnell Hurt

Was reported in the GDT

Quote:
Flyers defenseman Kimmo Timonen and forward Scott Hartnell both suffered injuries in Friday night's 5-1 loss in Chicago, according to club general manager Paul Holmgren.

Timonen suffered a chip fracture in his ankle, said Holmgren, and will miss at least one week. Hartnell has a broken big toe, and is doubtful for Saturday night's game in Columbus (7:00 p.m., Comcast SportsNet).

Not a great way to start a road trip. This could get really ugly, really fast.

It will all be ok, we have plenty of depth at D. They're not long term injuries so no need to panic.

I'd hate to see them become nagging injuries.

What's the rule on LTIR, whichever comes first out of 10 games missed or 30 days missed?

You're probably right.

You're definitely right about the D. As for our offense, it bugs me that we didn't have Briere or even Upshall for the 3rd line, and now we're taking an additional loss to our top 2 lines.

But scoring depth is our biggest strength, so we should be fine.

Here is when the injuries developed:

http://philadelphia.comcastsportsnet...062&feedID=695

Quote:
The Flyers suffered two key injuries in Friday’s 5-1 loss to Chicago.

According to CSNPhilly.com contributor Anthony J. SanFilippo of the Delaware County Daily Times, defenseman Kimmo Timonen will miss at least one week – if not longer – with a chip fracture in his right ankle suffered while blocking a shot.

Timonen played most of the game but sat out the end of the third period. He was seen leaving the Flyers locker room in a walking boot and is already wearing a protective shell around his left skate to guard against a repeat of last season's blood clot injury that also came from a blocked shot.

Forward Scott Hartnell limped off the ice in the third period after breaking the big toe of his left foot – also while blocking a shot. Hartnell is doubtful for Saturday's game in Columbus and will be re-evaluated once the team arrives in Ohio.

The Flyers most likely will replace Timonen and Hartnell with Andrew Alberts and Jonathan Kalinski, respectively. Both were healthy scratches against the Blackhawks.

I don't like the sound of that.

Give him as much time as he needs to knit up, and then some.

Yep, this stinks no doubt.

I tried to put the injuries and the loss in perspective on the web site -- www.flyerswire.com. It should be pretty interesting to see how the Flyers react.

Ugg, and the post Christmas slump begins. This was just great news to wake up to.

At least we have Alberts to cover for Timonen. Ha!

Good thing we always have to go on a road trip after Christmas instead of sticking around at home for a few days and nursing some wounds.
