Whats goin on guys....Flyer fan living in Columbus here. While I root for Columbus just as much as Philly now, I will be wearing my Flyers jersey there tonight. It will be nice seeing Giroux up on the 2nd line. A couple of injured teams should make this an interesting game. Go Flyers!

I'll be wearing a white Gagne jersey in the lower bowl. Nice to know I'll have some other support there haha.

If Leclaire plays and the Flyers don't win, they should just quit now.

Who knows, if Giroux and Carter click, I wouldnt be surprised if Lupul's fate is sealed as the odd man out when we get healthy again.

I'll admit to not watching the Flyers at all. But a couple of comments from our side of the fence...

All I can hope is that you forgot the sarcasm smilie on this one. Malhotra, Umberger, Peca, and Novotny "depth at center" - that's a good one. We've got two face-off / defensive guys who don't shoot nearly enough (Malhotra & Peca), someone who if we had better centers would be an excellent winger (Umberger) and Novotny who has been sitting in the press box most of the season.

The CBJ are not the Blackhawks. Take as many penalties as you want. The Jackets current PP% is 9.9 - yes, you read that correctly, 9.9% that is good for last in the league. 5 on 5 F/A they are 10th in the league with 1.09, PHI is sitting at 19th with 0.94. We've given up a significant amount of short handed goals too. If you are on the PK, it may be far more likely that you score than we do.

I'm not being funny but are you serious? The carter lupul hartnell line was actually dominating teams for a long while. Lupul has been playing his best hockey since wearing the flyers jersey.

Indeed, Umberger is a better winger than center.

And remains the best option to move to clear some cap space...with Giroux being the obvious choice to replace him in the lineup.

you guys are always all over him. He is performing well right now, maybe you guys should be hacking at Knuble. Whenever Lupul plays well its, "perfect time to move him," and when hes playing ****** its "perfect time to move him."

Also looks to be very good friends with Richards and Carter. Breaking team chemistry isn't a good idea

stop trying to jinx us!

i'm hoping for a better showing that the one we gave in chicago. berubebox is right; this is the time for us to show that we're a contender. if we lose, i won't be upset, but i want to see discipline and a full 60 minutes of effort from every player. anything less is unacceptable.

Here is a good article regarding the promotion of Giroux:
Quote:

http://www.philly.com/dailynews/spor...to_Flyers.html

CHICAGO - Claude Giroux wasn't expecting to hear from Paul Holmgren the day before Christmas.
Everything that had been said about the Flyers' young forward was that he would not get a call to the NHL until there was room for him on one of the top three lines.

But then Scottie Upshall went down for 10 to 14 days with a knee injury and the phone rang in Grioux' Hearst, Ontario, home on Christmas Eve. It was the Flyers general manager; Giroux was being invited on the post-Christmas trip, first stop Chicago.

"It was a good Christmas present," Giroux said. "Hopefully, I get some ice time and I can show what I can do."

It has been a long time coming. Giroux was the talk of pre-training camp. The high-flying winger lit the lamp in junior hockey and was expected to make the Flyers out of camp. He had 106 points in 55 regular-season games and 51 points in 19 playoff games last season with Gatineau, of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

But things didn't go as planned, and Giroux was sent to the Phantoms. Andreas Nodl made the team and spent the first quarter of the season with the Flyers.

Nodl fit in, but was not scoring and was sent down, called back up, and then sent down again yesterday when Giroux came up.

"There has been a lot of talk lately that he has been playing really well, and he deserved a chance to get in and play," coach John Stevens said. "We think that, going on the road, he gives us a little more skill in our lineup and hopefully gives us some secondary scoring."

After last night, the guys better come out breathing fire and hitting everything that moves. That was embarrassing.

Update with Columbus' lineup:
Quote:

Methot sitting, Huselius ailing, centers working
The Blue Jackets will scratch defenseman Marc Methot tonight and insert Christian Backman into the lineup.

Meanwhile, Kristian Huselius did not skate today and will be a game-time decision because of illness, coach Ken Hitchcock said. Minor-league call-up Craig MacDonald would take his place if Huselius can't go.

I find the decision to scratch Methot curious. He is a plus-8 in his last 22 games. Yes, he was a minus-2 against the Kings, but I'm still surprised. I'll just throw this out there -- it's the last game before the holiday roster freeze ends. That's not a hunch or speculation, but I'm just trying to present all the possible options.

It's probably something as simple as wanting to get Backman in the lineup and Methot is the best candidate to sit.

The forward lines remain the same as on a previous post. Hitchcock has an interesting take on his lack of playmaking centers with Derick Brassard lost for the season.

He was asked about using Manny Malhotra on the top line with Huselius and Nash. After saying that Malhotra is a big player and that he "competes at a high level," he got philosophical on the topic of center.
