we can keep both komi and j-bo but we'll have to sacrifice some offence to do it. i think we'll be able to keep only one of our ufa forwards: koivu, tanguay, kovy, lang. I say keep both and sign koivu only.

Komi is a better D-man.

J-Bo puts up more points.

Depending what we gave up for J-Bo, we'd really have a pickle of a choice, mind you I think that they'd both stay.

I doubt that after getting Bo that he'd be sent packing and komi being our 2nd goalie on the ice is to valuable to loose.

Call me crazy I pick Mike Komisarek. We already have Markov and you can't replace what Komi brings. Jay Bo has not lived up to the hype for me and maybe I haven't seen enough of him but he seems too laissez faire.

As a rental I'd love Jay Bo and if we could keep them both even better.

Leadership, huge hits, blocked shots, intimidation, we lost all of that when Mike was hurt and we gained it back when he returned, barring the game he had the flu.

JayBo is yet another LD. Without moving Hamrlik, this isn't even a choice. Komisarek. We're thin enough on right D as is.

edit: If you're trading Markov, then yeah, pick up JayBo I guess, though Markov is better IMO.

edit II: If Hamrlik can play on the right proficiently, then it could work. You don't sign a guy like Bouwmeester and ask him to play out of position.

Gotta consider character too.

Bouwmeester is said to love the no-pressure environment in Florida.

Komi seems to love the attention he finds here.

The only problem I have what this is that once Saku is gone Komisarek is the next leader of this hockey franchise and like Saku I would like him to remain a Hab for his entire career

J-Bo by 150%. He brings a plethera of skills and talents. Komisarek as much as I enjoy watching him play is a 1 dimensional defense man and eventually him looking for that big hit will cost the Habs many points.

If I could re-sign both I would.
If I could trade Markov I would.
If I could trade Koivu I would.

Habs won't win the cup this year unless they make a drastic change.

Boumeester is the better all around player (or will be soon if he isnt already), but komisarek is the better fit on the habs at this point.

Because he wanted to be on the national team in Vancouver. I'm sure they made it clear that he has to be there and perform well or their will be no place for him on the team. Playing on World championship is never as hard as going into a series ith the Flyers and the Bruins when you have an injury.

I'll assume that in the event we get Bouwmeester that he will sign in MTL this upcoming july. Also, acquiring Bouwmeester will demand of us to send a D-men the other way.

My thinking is that O'Byrne is really messing things up, as he - in my opinion - was foreseen as a key ingredient in a trade. Now, what is dangerous is that his play has largely diminished his value...setting up other of our assets as better trade bait. To this I will evoke Josh Gorges.

Indeed, MTL needs a top 4 D-men that can do it all, good defense, excellent transition, and offensive numbers. And MTL has the space for another 5M+ D-man with the departure of some of our D-man from our current roster.

Let's see how our D will progress in the next few years:
09-10 (Bouillon, Dandy and Breezer are gone)
Markov - 5,750M
Hamrlik - 5,5M
Komisarek - 5M
Gorges - 1M
O'Byrne - 0,724M
Weber - 0,700M (estimated)
Carle - 0,635M

10-11
Markov - 5,750M
Hamrlik - 5,5M
Komisarek - 5M
Gorges - 1,3M
O'Byrne - 1,4M
Weber - 0,700M (estimated)
Carle - 1,2M (estimated)
McDonagh - 0,700 (estimated)

11-12 (not resigning Markov, nor Hamrlik)
Komisarek - 5M
Gorges - 2M (estimated)
O'Byrne - 2M (estimated)
Weber - 0,700M (estimated)
Carle - 1,5M
McDonagh - 0,700 (estimated)
Subban - 0,700 (estimated)

My estimates may be totally off, but it is just to illustrated that signing a top 4 star D-men (long-term) to help Komisarek shape HIS defense is necessary come now the 11-12 season.

And why I say we can nail this cap wise is that this can be accomplished within a max. of 25M (not unreasonable these days) for defense - give or take as this is a very ruff statement.

Still needs some thinking, but the need is there, Bouwmeester or not.

O'Byrne, Gorges and Fischer, the best bargaining chips. Also, can't say I have high hopes for Carle - healthy wise...

Komisarek will be the habs future kaptain so there is no way I would chose Bouwmeester ahead of him.

I would hope Montreal would be getting more in return for Markov then just Jordan Staal?????

Who would you choose Bouwmeester or Komisarek?
Kaomisarek...because we need his physical game and he will cost 2 to 2.5 mil less per season. So it's like Lang plus Komi vs Bouwmeester.

Komi has been a good player for us and he would be an important player to try and keep for the future...but I'm a little surprised that he currently has more votes...

It would be nice to keep both Jay and Komi but if we had to choose ....I would pick Jay hands down...he's an different league than Komi...he's much more of a complete D and is one of the top 10 in the league...

Trading Markov thats just crazy and not going to happen

i would keep komi he is like people have said a future captain, he has shed blood for this team and is 100% dedicated to the habs. him and markov teaching mcdo in the future is a great future, and if emelin were to ever come, him under markov & komi's wing beautiful

komi will probably take a discount to stay here with a NTC like markov

There's no question that Komi has been and would be an important player for our team...he would make a good captain.....

It would be great to keep all three Komi, markov and Jay...and maybe Bob would be able figure out a way to make it happen..however, if it boiled down to Komi or Jay,....Komi doesn't have the same natural all round ability that Jay brings to the table...Jay is also very young and he still has lots of room to improve as well...Jay is a top talent in the NHL and the opportunity to get a top talent like him doesn't come around often....As much as like Komi I would have to pick Jay..
