Good for him, he works his ass off and wins puck battles like no other. Just goes to show you what heart and pure determination can do for a player. Now hopefully he gets recognition around the league since he has the stats to back it up. And he's only making 1.1 million a year
23 years old to boot. The kid has his defensive game down pat which means the club has several years to try to focus on his scoring game and maybe him turning into a more rounded defender, like Andrei Markov. He meshes great with the team and I bet as long as Carey and him get along, both will be wearing the CH.
I miss Craig's feistyness and the fact that at one point Montreal had a lot of toughness on D but Gorges is a different form of tough. He's a shot blocking machine. I like that.
Gorges has been stellar. He has done it all year too and tuned it around after a rocky start with the Habs. Rivet has had good seasons, usually alternating with bad ones, but I never saw him play defensive hockey this well for so long. Rivet had way more offensive use, but was a pylon compared to Gorges. His toughness and hard shot might be missed, but we're better off with a younger, steadier guy like Gorges. Since Craig is best friends with Saku, maybe Bob will one day give him a Breezy treatment and bring him back for a bottom pairing role... hopefully with better results. But as for Gorges, he has turned the Rivet deal from a nice return into a steal. It's not absolute highway robbery considering Rivet gave the Sharks some good work, but a potential power forward scoring star and a solid defender make this one of Gainey's best (if not his best) moves.
I remember so many Sharks fans saying they won the deal just for getting rid of Gorges. I never saw him play in SJ but he was definitely bad at first with us...but he has just kept getting better and better. Really thinking of getting a Gorges jersey because I think/hope he's going to be here for a looong time.
