They wanted to get rid of him? The hell is wrong with them.

what a D-man this guy is turning out to be. Always finished his plays, even if he knows he's going to take a huge hit. Solid defensively, rarely makes a mistake.

if we get a top4 d at the deadline and move Gorges back to 5th spot we have a really solid defence

I still can't believe nor accept the fact that this guy might've been captain.

I mean, if he was, really, he'd be captain of the Habs.

I don't doubt it. Gainey likes his character players. Gorges has become a hell of a player. I knew we had to be patient when people were complaining when he first started with us (he's younger than O'Byrne), but I never thought he'd become so solid so quick.

Gorges wasn't very good on San Jose, but again, he was like, a 21 year old blueliner. He shouldn't have been playing games up in the first place, really. However, SJ has sucked on D for so long of course a youngster like him slid into the lineup. Other interesting facts not associated with who he captained in Kelowna:

- San Jose also got a draft pick in the Rivet trade, which is oft forgotten. Despite the fact Montreal drafted some dirty yankee named Maximillion Pacioretty (Esq.), San Jose drafted a good tough french Canadian named Julien Demers in the fifth round. Gainey

- Josh Gorges went undrafted.

- Gorges was also captain of Team Canada in the WHL vs. Russia game.

- Gorges was a part of that embarrassing Team Canada in 2004 which only got Silver. LOSERS!

- Actually, despite his super french name, Demers is actually from Nepean, where Avril Lavigne is from. Stupid faux frenchies. Montreal won the trade.

He might have a few games, but you have to remember that until this year, San Jose has had some really terrible Defence. It's why they did give a first round draft pick for Craig Rivet. He was that valuable to them. Their scouting has a wonderful knack for finding good strong forwards but when it comes to the blueline they are pathetic. Brad Stuart was good but he is a third overall pick, of course he'd be good.

It's funny how the "useless" +/- stat is some how, now, relevant...

Gorges is one of the most underated player on this team... he learns quickly, is intelligent with the puck and avoids mistakes... he'll never be a star but a Craig Rivet-like player for years to come.

Great pick-up by Gainey and what a steal when you add that first round pick.

Has to be the top choice so far for the Jacque Beauchamp (I think that is what it is called) trophy for the Habs.
