We're already well accustomed to that, thank you very much.

It's like the Sanford signing -- we only acquired him so we'd no longer have to play against him. Labs is shaky, but for some reason he's had our number forever.

Added bonus, he's 4-0-1 against the Oilers with a 1.05 GAA and .966 SV% in his career.

Assuming Schneider gets sent down, this also saves the Canucks about $100K on the cap for the rest of the year! Yay!

Exactly. A 7th round pick is the closest thing to nothing you can possibly trade. There is almost zero risk and some possible reward. It's a good gamble to take and it puts Schneider in a place where he can keep on developing instead of watching Sanford play. That alone is worth the cost.

Dave Tomlinson's being ranting about this for months...
The Canucks need more goalie depth in the org.

Luongo
Sanford
Schneider
Ellis

and that's it...

So LaBarbera is a decent depth move

TSN is expecting Schneider to go back to Manitoba, which isn't much of a surprise.

The 28-year old LaBarbera has a 5-8-4 record with an .893 save percentage and a 2.83 goals against average in 19 games with the Kings this season.

The Burnaby, BC native has a 34-42-8 record in 98 career games split between the New York Rangers and the Kings.

LaBarbera was originally drafted in the third round, 66th overall by the Rangers in 1998 NHL Entry Draft.

With the acquisition of LaBarbera, goaltender Cory Schneider will likely be returned to the Manitoba Moose of the AHL on Wednesday.

good move, gets Schneider back down to manitoba where he should be, and it cost little. Sanford is not consistent enough for labarbara to ride the pine so I'm sure we'll see him get a shot in some games. he's not great but hopefully will be a decent stopgap and if he gets hot can help.

I like Schneider a lot more when he's doing great things for the Moose than I do when he's doing terrible things for the Canucks. We need a third-string goaltender a lot more than we need a seventh round pick right now.

Not. LaBarbera was in a bad situation in LA. He's got skills but has been rotting away on a crappy team with even crappier goaltending coaches an even worse defensive corps.

LaBarbera has the skills. However, when you rot away on a perpetually crappy team year in and year out, winning attitudes don't always come easy.

Kings fan first, Canucks fan second...canucks got screwed a 7th round draft pick is way to much for this guy, free would also be to much and if he paid the canucks to play for them stil way to much...
