Price's 40th career win at his 66th game, does anyone still have doubts?

Was there ever a goalie under 22 who has reached 40 wins so quickly?

Most #1 goalies will start in at least 65 games in a season. Tonight was his 66th and he now has a career record of 40-16-8 for a win% of ,667.

He also hasn't lost in regulation in his last 12 games, allowing only 25 goals, with a record of 8-0-4 and a win% of over ,800.

Does anyone still doubt him? And to think he's only 21 and will still progress.

Thank you Timmins and Gainey.

Please don't ever say that.

On the other hand, future looks bright. Glad we're saving money...for now.

6 years 30 mill.

Only thing that still bother me about him is when he let's in lazy goals but i'll forgive him 'cause he's from BC and he makes up for it during the game.

The most impressive part is he truly has never been "on fire". He plays so consistently and these are the results. That's the most Brodeur-esque quality about him.

I posted something similar in the post game thread:

The win was Price's 40th of his career, which isn't very notable in its own right, but I think it is notable when you consider it was his 66th game, basically a full season for a starting goalie. It gives you perspective about how good he is at such a young age because his career line of GP-66 W-40 L-16 OTL-8 with 0.920 save percentage looks an awful lot like what you expect to see out of a Vezina trophy nominee in any given year.

He's also been pretty damn consistent this year. He's played in 25 games this year and if you break it down into 5 game splits, here's what you get:

Games 1-5: W-3 L-1 OTL-1 0.931sv%
Games 6-10: W-4 L-1 OTL-0 0.920sv%
Games 11-15: W-2 L-2 OTL-1 0.911sv%
Games 16-20: W-4 L-1 OTL-0 0.915sv%
Games 21-25: W-3 L-0 OTL-2 0.930sv%

His average highs aren't out of this world, but his average lows are still more than decent.

completely agree, those piss me off more than anything, but, and a huge but, this year, anytime he gives up a softy...he goes into "good luck scoring on me mode" as opposed to last year, when he give up a softy, he would look so deflated...that's a huge progress i see at least...

Just a minor correction, I did check on NHL.com and he didn't lose in regulation in his last 12 games. That bolded line should be 4-0-1, as he also only has 4 regulation losses in 25 games this season, and you add it up to 5 this way.

Oh believe me, there were still doubters in our midst at the start of the season.

I would get flamed and it would be pandemonium if I posted this on the Ruins board, or even worst, the Pens board.

It's kinda like Iginla fighting. I think its ridiculous for him to put himself in the box for five minutes, but when he gets out he usually scores a goal.

God do I hope Price posts a shutout in our next game against them. Just to make them shut the **** up about how they own Price now, have him figured out and what not.

Yeah, I copied that wrong. I was looking through his game log earlier today and calculated the splits. This game finished up the last 5 game split, but evidently I copied it out wrong.

If anyone's interested, if you cherry pick to find Price's absolute worst 5 game split (it starts November 1st and includes his two 6 goal against games), he still comes out with an 0.885sv%. It's still bad and would be horrible for an overall save percentage (sorry Turco and Toskala), but for a cherry picked 5 game worst, I don't think it's that bad. He also went 3-2-0 in that five game stretch, so even when he's statistically playing poorly, he found a way to win some games (or at least Montreal did).

I surely hope so, and I think Price might just pull one hell of a performance against the Ruins, as his last bad game was against them, some 14 games ago (I mean, 14 starts ago for him). I'm sure Price remembers it pretty well and wants a payback, like he did in the playoffs in game #4 and #7. Funny tho, ever since that 6-1 loss, he's been 9-1-4, with his only regulation loss against the Canes in a 2-1 game.

Thanks for the stats anyway, they were very interesting.

The contrast between Price and Havlat is too great to sustain the notion of a 1 and 1a goalie tandem. Halak just isn't in his class.

I know you have very few posts here, and thats fine, but you've also been here since 2007.

When the guy is talking about goalies and correctly mentions Halak right after, and obviously made a simple error of similar names, its pretty ******* to point it out as if it makes a huge difference.

Just saying. We still love ya, Tony!

I feel very secure with Price in net holding a lead in the 3rd. Huet, no.

Oh please, with his save percentage and his GAA, he can continue to give a softy from time to time.

I agree that it annoying but he s never giving those softies in a innappropriate time.

The only thing that bothers me about Price is his lack of shutouts. Only 4 in 66 games! Steve Mason already has 4.

Shutouts are for goalies that try too hard.
