I love how Kings fans are so happy with this trade. When Labarbera starts playing really well and shows it was just mental problems, it is just a testiment to how ****** the Kings organization is.

LaBarbera has the skills. However, when you rot away on a perpetually crappy team year in and year out, winning attitudes don't always come easy.

That deserves a....

PWNED!
Would that be the defense with the fewest shots against in the league? The weak spot with the Kings was the goaltending. Problem solved. (PWNED)

Mental problems? Sounds like he's insane or something.

Kings fans sound exactly like how we were when we moved Potvin to them. How did that turn out again?

Labarbera isn't as bad as the LA fans make out. I remember them saying Ersberg was going to take over and dominate and show how bad Jason was, and here they are with extremely similar stats.

Sanford has been no great shakes, I expect Labarbera will be about the same.

Good move to get Schneider back down to Manitoba.

I'd say we're due for one of these goalie flyers to come in and play above expectations, but I know that's not the way it works around here.

Huh. It seems like just last year everyone was saying how good Labarbera is.

Bad sign though as they wouldn't do this if Lou was close to coming back.

Labarbara's career save % is .901, thats not bad. 3.00 GAA but played for some brutal teams.

I have not watched him enough to fully evaluate him, but he appears to be an okay journeyman. Were the fans now trashing him the same ones who thought he was going to be a star goalie because of his AHL success?

The kings fans see him as a failed potential number one goalie. In the perspective of Labarbara as a backup or 3rd string stop gap goalie, he should be okay.

But most people don't expect him to be back before the all-star break, so this should be a good move until he gets back.

On the bright side at least it's not a 5th round pick for Maxime Ouellet.

I really wanted Labs a few years ago when the Kings picked him up. I believe Auld/Ouellet was our goalie tandem at the time.

Or a 2nd for Mika Noronen.

Can't help but wonder what Gillis has planned for the deadline, with his choosing to free up extra cap space like this.

Also, I wonder whether Labs will be given a shot to take the reins for awhile... Think AV will for the hot hand until Lou is back?

Seriously, this isn't bad for you guys. A seventh really is a bargain, for a guy who can fill in until you get Luongo back. He's low-maintenance to boot--play Metallica for him, feed him occasionally, and keep his pads inflated, and he's a happy camper.

All kidding aside, Labs has game, somewhere behind those pads. We've seen it here, but it's been a while. His first few months up looked like he was the next (insert your favorite goalie), but he went through some family stuff, and around the same time he almost literally fell apart. Never really been the same, plus he got caught in a roster/financial pinch here that forced him into another year in the A when he didn't deserve to be there.

A change of scenery and some confidence could do wonders for him, and while the Kings tried to give him that, maybe being home and around the family gives him the boost he needs.

Good luck to him and to you.

A couple of questions,

1, What is the status of Lol's contract? Is it a 2 way?
2, If so, would that mean that we could see Gillis aggressively shopping Schneider in an attempt to make that other 'big move'?

Another question, what is Labarbera's cap hit? With Schneider on his rookie contract doesnt all his bonus's count against the cap? Could this also be a simple salary savings move as well?

Weird trade but whatever. A 7th rounder isn't much.

According to NHLscap, Labarbera's cap hit is $850,000 and he's a UFA at the end of the year. As a starting goalie, not very desirable. But he's being brought in for depth, to alternate/play back-up to Sanford. I think this was a pretty good move to solidify our goaltending situation until Luongo's return. I give it a thumbs up. Only a 7th round pick for a guy who is actually playing in the NHL? Better than the Oullete deal...or the Noronen one...

No he's not. He's just been the Kings fans whipping boy for the collective incompetence in the Kings front office.

I'm surprised we didn't get 2 second rounders out of LA.
