Lang

I wonder how many of you here would have thought back in Oct. that Lang would have 9 more points than Pleks after 36 games and could easily have 20 more points with all the missed opportunities.

I know I didn't

But! "Si la tendance se maintient", Plekanec will have more points than Lang at the end of this season..

Lang has been awesome.
I can not wait until the playoffs I think he will be dominant.

Yeah of course. I said that with the fact that he should be playing with Kovalev and A. Kost in mind! If he gets clicking with those two, he'll be ripping the score sheet a new one once again

Lang continues to do his job though, he is a very valuable "depth" center to have. We don't need to count on him at all, yet he contributes with some timely goals and more than decent defense. He is a very good face off man too!

I don't wanna defend Pleks but Lang gets more pp time and also gets to be on the 5 on 3.But let's hope with the latest success of the Plekanec,Kovalev and Kostitsyn line he will wake up and they will be up there in scoring at season end

He is the worst faceoff man on the team.

Player FOW FOL Tot FO%
1 Maxim Lapierre 199 156 355 56.0
2 Saku Koivu 242 204 446 54.3
3 Tomas Plekanec 336 324 660 50.9
4 Robert Lang 255 285 540 47.2

Lang actually also averages 6 seconds a game less power play time than Pleks.

Please guys. You can't just spew stuff here that is simply not true.

Anyoways, as far as Lang is concerned he has been a very pleasant surprise. Where wou;d we be with Koivu out and no Lang? He brings a certain calm to the game. I also understand that he is very well liked by his teammates and fits in very well in the dressing room.

That's odd!

Maybe it's just me but he seems to win a lot important face offs no?

And by the way, 47% is not bad

When you lose more face offs than you win, it's always bad.
I'm actually surprised at how much Laps has improved in the face off circle.

As for Lang, he's done everything I wished he would when we signed him.

At the beginning of the year he was even worse. Finally Carbo has stopped using him in most of the important situations. You see Pleks out there for most of the importasnt faceoffs and now even Lappy occasionally. I was alos really surprised to see how much Lappy has improved.

I think this whole Lang is a good faceoff man thing is based on reputation. Maybe his career stats in the faceoff circle are good. I'm not sure though.

the man is 4th in points on the Habs after 36 games, imagine if he did strike half of his chances that he missed ?

Lang is miles greater than Plekanics in terms of hockey smarts. Besides speed Plekanics doesn't bring much to the table.

He was Chicago best at faceoffs last season, I believe around 55%?

I agree, he just misses so many gimmes.

Other than that he's been fine.

The one thing however is that unlike Koivu and now Pleks Lang has rarely got his wingers going...

Looking back to the first few games with SKos than Gl, than Higgins, now Tanguay, D'Agostini.

No wingers seem to excel with him.

That can be explained by checking out who Lang's line plays against. Also, check his defensive vs offensive zone faceoffs. Context is everthing. Lang's linemates get to play with a good player, but they also get the toughest assignments.

Yeah it's maybe true that he has the worst percentage, but i've noticed that he always wins important faceoffs, that's why carbo puts him out there. Recently it's been Lapierre, but for most of the season Lang has been taking those faceoffs in our territorry by the end of the game and always wins them.

Last night i was listening to ckac after the game and the guy hosting the show couldn't stop ripping Lang and Laraque. He compared him to Bonk and Smolinski, I couldn't stop laughing. The guy is going for a 50 points season, I didn't expect more or less. To me he's been our best acquisition this off season, nothing against Tanguay or Laraque, but he's giving this team a new dimension when everyone is healthy. Imagine if ever we get 4 lines working, we'll be unbeatable.

I truly have a different feeling this year, I think the team is not only working to be in the playoffs, but we're working to go far in the playoffs.

He's a very good penalty killer and he can finish on his breakaways. In 2007-08 he brought a lot to the table and shows signs of regaining his touch. His two passes to AKost against the Penguins were not only accurate but well thought out as he saw the disarray among the Penguin defenders each time.

Doesn't Bonk have the highest FO% this season (or at least close to it)?

Lang and Koivu should take a break of 1-2 games before the beginning of the playoffs. I don't know if it's even possible lol, it may represent some lack of respect toward both players... Also, they are getting paid while not playing ...

Regardless of the performances by Plekanec, Koivu or Lapierre, Lang has been what we could ask for and more. Great pick up!
