Little late, but I'm glad he's gone. I liked the guy and all and he could at times be a real effective player physically, but cmon with the boarding majors buddy! Granted some of those calls were questionable, but he was targeted by the league so ya have to know its going to be called. That last board in the PO's was the last straw for me.

I wish him the best of luck though.

Everyone was saying that replacing Hollweg is a piece of cake. Did Rangers do that? No. Betts line is not what it use to be last season. Sjostrom didn't set world of fire with his offensive upside, instead the line is getting scored on. Giving Hollweg away was another bonehead move by GM.

The Betts line is arguably the best, most consistent line weve had in 3+ years of Renney outside of the Straka Nylander Jagr line.

Sjostrom Betts and Orr are a perfect 4th line trio, i dont know what the hell you are talking about. Losing Hollweg got rid of an extra 2-4 minutes killing penalties per game, and we didnt lose any offense and we actually gained defense. Hollwegs ability to hit means nothing because 1 out of every 3 hits he did was dirty and got called for a penalty, often times at the most inopportune moments.

I do miss those completely unnecessary hitting from behind/boarding penalties he would take, oh the good ole days

You are totally right we should have kept him so he can crosscheck and injure people some more.

Getting rid of Hollweg for a late round pick was one of the better GM decisions lately. It's nice to know a good move can actually happen once and then in this debacle.

I guess you and the leafs felt the same way.

Hollweg was pretty terrible. I am glad he's gone. You can't get into a rythom being on the PK all game. However, It was nice once in a while that he laid the big hit and made players look over their shoulders every time they battle in the corners. But like inferno said, 1/3 of his hits resulted in penalties basicly...

Just when it seemed the Rangers were going to blow right past the Penguins, a careless boarding penalty by Ryan Hollweg put Pittsburgh back on the power play. And despite being outshot 29-13, the Penguins regained the lead when Malkin scored another power-play goal.

New York pressed for the go-ahead score after its two quick ones forged a 3-3 tie. The Penguins were tired in their own zone when Hollweg, a healthy scratch for the first two games of the series, drilled Petr Sykora from behind into the boards.

“It was not too smart on his part,” Penguins defenseman Ryan Whitney said. “Because of that, we were able to go into the third period with a lead.”
Remember this? Thats one of many examples of Hollweg's shananigans.

Would still having Hollweg make it easier for this team to score goals?

Nope. End of story.

Still think this was a great deal. Hollweg would have been by far the worst player on this team even with the glut of forwards already on the team. Im hoping Sather can do something similar with fritsche + voros/prucha(if prucha isnt goujng to get a fair sht) because the more later round picks the rangers have to pick with the higher the risk they can take with those picks.
