Habs interested in Andres Ambühl?

Quote:
Swiss reports are indicating that the Montreal Canadiens could be close to signing forward Andres Ambühl. The 25 year old Swiss has scored 12 goals and 31 points in 34 games for Nationalliga A club Davos this season.

Probably an AHL depth move.

Not a source. Where's the Swiss report? Is it published?

He's 5'9" by the way.

I know it's not a legit source by i read it in several swiss newspapers. They also mentioned it on swiss television and on eurosport 2 during the spengler cup broadcast.

He picked up 5 points in 7 games at the World Championship last year.

I'm a fan of scouting out of Switzerland though. They play a lot closer to our style of game (as well as Finnish born players) than most other countries. Plus, Switzerland is still an undiscovered hockey hotbed, where the team is getting better, but they still aren't getting much exposure.

What position does he play? Are they trying to find a Streit clone? He sure looks like a fast skater.

edit: he is listed as a forward at the World Championships.

Agree, if Ambühl gets signed, he'll play in the NHL. He has no business in the AHL.

he's a dman. He's the fastest skater IMO in the Swiss league. He's agile, speedy, skillful.

Edit: oups my bad. Of course he's a forward

No, he's not a d-men, he's a forward, can play center or wing, very fast skater and he learned how to score in the last two years.

he's not soft. He's very gritty and often throws huge open ice hits.

Was it speculation or did it sound like something was close?

a bit of both I think. He actually already got an offer from Farjestad from the swedish elite league and there are a couple teams from the KHL that have shown interest in him.

Where is he going to play ? In front of who ? Tanguay, Kovy, SK, AK ? Can't see this move happening for NHL depth.

Are we interested in him like we were interested in Zinovjiev? Or are we interested in him like we were with that big defenceman from Switzerland that was suppose to come here as well?

And whose place is he going to take?
