ok guys, me and my friends are coming to visit our friend who lives in the area and give him a belated bachelor party. we are coming to the game on december 12th but then afterwards we are looking to get rip-roaring drunk so he forgets that he just had a shotgun wedding, what are the good bars in the area around the Verizon that we can do this in? thanks in advance.

there's tons of bars right by the arena, and you can bump into players some nights. It's hard to NOT find a bar as long as you go West from the arena (away from the Capitol).

The best place to find information on Caps' watering holes? This thread is the place, amid the 220-odd earlier entries. More than half of it is devoted to food and drink. Read through it and you'll find a ton of great suggestions. There are some earlier threads from last year, or the year before, but this one has the most up-to-date information.

anyone got any details on student rush?

i have looked at the info on the website but its not clear whether student IDs from out of state are accepted and how quickly the student tickets sell out. (starts at 10am apparently)

im probably coming down from Mtl and going to the game on the 4th of December against the Isles.

Yeah, they're fine. My brother's been able to get them using a several year old ECU ID, so you should be fine.

I'm a Bruins fan, but have considered the Caps one of my favorite teams for a while now. I'm making a trip down there at the end of January for the Feb. 1st game vs. the Sens.

I was there last October and did some touristy stuff, but any recommendations? Only one of us (me) is 21, so that kind of eliminates the bar scene. What's the alcohol policy at the Verizon Center? I know at the Garden here in Boston it's no beer with an out of state ID unless it's over 25...

Thanks guys, I can consider myself a Caps fan for that one afternoon

The museums are all free, and the Museum of American History just reopenned completely renovated in the last month. I'd highly recommend that.

For anyone coming to town between January 17 - January 20

D.C. Bars, Nightclubs to Be Open 24-hours A Day for Inauguration Week

Key quote for those who don't want to register at the Washington Post site.
Quote:
The D.C. Council approved emergency legislation this evening that will allow District bars, nightclubs and restaurants to serve alcohol until 5 a.m. — three hours later than usual — and remain open for food around the clock from Jan. 17 until the morning after Obama’s swearing-in Jan. 20.

I'm going to that game too!

I'm curious on the policy as well, if anyone can help.

any +21 ID is fine. Everyone at Caps games is out of state, since the VC isn't in a state.

They may only check your ID to make sure you're old enough to buy beer. As long as you're over 21, you should be fine.

in January, i would say those thing you asked about are not in walking distance - it will be cold, and perhaps snowy so...

look here for info about where to stay, best way to get around, etc etc

Hey, I'm looking for tickets to either the Flyers game on the 6th or the Blue Jackets game on the 9th of January. I've looked into getting them through the Caps site but I just wanted to see if anyone on here was looking to get rid of theirs before I took that route...thanks.

visitors

we'll be coming down for the ranger game this week - will be supporting our guys but can't wait to see Ovechkin - he is great to watch play... your team as a whole is fun to watch We go to Boston for a game every year and never had problems with Bruin fans ... hope you guys are okay with "visitors"

As long as you are respectful there shouldn't be any problems.

We will be that
-- can't tell you how many times we've seen visiting fans abused at MSG and not always deserved... its one of the reasons we'd never go to a flyers game

any way read thru this thread and we'll be staying a few blocks from the arena so we don't have to worry about driving - we've narrowed down 3 places to go either before or after the game: Green Turtle, Irish Channel or La Tasca. Any additional input - 2 college-aged girls and mom.

of those 3, I'd recommend Irish Channel if you don't want a crowd, La Tasca if you want something nice, or if you want standard bar fare, and don't mind a big crowd, Irish Channel.

Say hello to your mother for me.

Green Turtle's probably the most crowded and I wouldn't recommend it after the game. Ton of Caps fans in there, as it's the closest to the game.

Out of the bunch, I would say the Irish Channel Bar post game. Usually some regulars in there, usually a good crowd but you can get in ok.

I have been going to RFD myself pre-game and that's been doing well this year, so I've stuck with it.
