Patrick Eaves

What do you think his value is?

He is very low on ice time with the Canes, i havent really seen him play much so i dont know if he caused that or coach just dont trust him but his first 2 seasons looked pretty good in Ottawa. Last year was very quiet resulting in a trade and statswise he hasnt been playing any better.

Oh yea and his contract looks pretty bad... 1.700mil next year.

I think there was rumor a month ago on Fourth Period that said they wanted to dump him to shed salary.

I would say he has slightly more value than Brian Sutherby.

Dallas gave up a long-shot prospect and a conditional 6th round pick. The condition is if Sutherby re-signs in the offseason.

Eaves has actually shown some offensive ability in the past. More so than Sutherby:
2005: 58 GP and 29 PTS (20G-9A)
2006: 73 GP and 32 PTS (14G-18A)

On the other hand, like Sutherby, he would be going to his 3rd team in 2 years. Also, both guys are/were energy, lower line, guys for their current team. Plus, Eaves has disappeared in the offensive zone the last 2 years.

What about a long-shot Top 6 prospect or a decent Bottom 6 prospect plus a 4th or 5th round pick?

EDIT: One more big knock against him is the fact that he is making $1.4 and $1.7 million over the next 2 years for a cap hit of $1.4 million.

Eaves finally got his first goal of the season the other night, and since then has hit 1 post and been inches from another goal (blown dead too early). He has really started to ramp up his defensive play this season. He could fetch a 5th or 6th round pick, but I am interested to see how he continues to improve his play. Who knows what will happen with us having Boychuck and Bowman in the next 2 seasons coming up (most likely), so there may be some spots that need to be freed up, and Eaves' spot on the 3/4th lines is one of those spots most likely.

I don't really care if Eaves isn't scoring as long as he keeps up consistent defensive play. However his value is next to nothing and Carolina would be dumb to trade him at a low point. Maybe they could swap him for Peter Prucha and something.

How does this pertain to Eaves? Just wondering. I didnít realize they had a history.

Playoff's 07. Armstrong laid a high hit on Eaves, and he's never been the same player since.

Wow. I didn't know that.

In case I'm not the only one:

I wouldn't call it a dirty hit now that I've finished watching it. That is unfortunate for Eaves though.

Legal, yes, but gutless and pukey. I regret bringing it up, though, as these battles have already been fought and I'm not particularly interested in waging another war. So, with that, I'll bow out right here. If anyone would like to stick up for Armstrong, that's fine, I will not be replying to this thread again, though.

eaves is at a low point for value, the canes shouldnt trade him now - i think in time he can get back to at least to close to what he was in ottawa. he could be a solid 2/3 line guy if he can get his game together, he is playing pretty well in his own end. his value is nothing obviously with his production so its not really worth a thread. value wise he's worth a bag of pucks, as a canes fan i think he is worth more and they need to hold on to him at least for now.

That might be along the lines of what you could get, a young project player with potential he isnt living up to.

Eaves has been great defensively over the last 10 games plus and is starting to find his rhythm in regards to offense. He won't put up big numbers this year but he's creating chances and has been very close a bunch of times. I know that doesn't really count for much but it's not lik he's playing poorly, he just isn't getting it done on the score sheet. But like I said, he's been great on the pk and has worked really well with Sutter this year.

So both are impending ufa's huh? Well it's intriguing I suppose. I've always liked Mad Max eventhough he's one the streakiest players ever to play the game. I mean we all know what he *can* do with the puck. He stick handles and skates as good as anyone in the league, but he has his slumps and pitfalls as well. I wouldn't mind seeing him on the Canes, but after his last 2 seasons he would need to take a massive paycut. Something in the 2mil dollar range or less. Sabres would be kinda crazy to trade Kotalik imo. Unless they don't think that they can sign him to a decent contract and don't want to lose him for nothing. He's a pretty steady player. Great for the 3rd line and could fill in alright on the 2nd too i suppose.

Anyway, i doubt this happens but if JR could resign one of them for cheap then I'd do it i guess.
