Letang should not be traded, period. He is the last member of the Pens d-corps I'd want to see dealt. 21 year old, physical, two-way defensemen who already deserve top 4 time ought to be retained.

Habs happily pass on this one or any trade offering a Kostitsyn straight up for Letang.

Is it that they're brothers or is it Sergei's potential? Letang would be great for Montreal and Sergei would work well in Pittsburgh where they are desperate for depth on the left side. However, Pittsburgh would need to find someone to fill in for Letang.

I never really thought Letang had this much value. I may be bias but one of the Kost Bros for Letang seems like a rip from the Habs.

Being brothers has absolutely nothing to do with it.

any of the brothers with Crosby or Malkin would be sick. But trade doesn't make sense for any of the teams.

So the Pens should just give away a young top 4 D-man for nothing? You shouldn't listen to peoples opinion on this board that watch Letang play once in a blue moon. No he's not Bobby Orr or anything but Letang's better than the people that don't watch him much on this board ever give him credit for and unless the Pens could fill a whole on the wing with a young winger coming back in return they'd pass on moving him.

Where did you get the notion that i think you should just give away Letang. I'm not listening to other opinions. I form my own and i know about Letang as i followed his career up to the NHL quite closely. I just don't think it's in the Habs best interest to trade either Kostitsyn for Letang. We have enough young d-man in our system that we could bring up instead of giving up one of the Kostitsyns. So i say happily no to a trade involving any Kostitsyn straight up for Letang.

I agree.

I think a sergei for Letang trade is equal value - both are a similar age and have similar potential for their positions, but the Pens have injuries on defense and have no need to move Letang. Likewise, the habs have a load of right handed d-men prospects who will be ready in a year or two. Echoing previous comments, if the habs deal for a defenseman, it will likely be a pick or prospect for an experienced no. 5 near the trade deadline.

montreal doesn't need letang, their system is loaded with young skill d men (carle, subban, weber, etc). they need a game changer at D - a vet not letang. the kos brothers are also part of a young nucleus of goal scorers that will be needed when kovalev and tanguay walk. no from habs perspective

They could just as easily get someone for a pick from possibly Buffalo, Toronto, etc.

Maybe I'm old school, but I'm not dealing with anyone in my division and I'm damn sure not going to help a club that is in front of me right now unless I'm getting OVER on the deal.

Letang for any Kosty brother is NOT getting over.
montreal isn't in the atlantic division
