A road trip to Alberta in April.... Help!

Hey Flames fans! Every season I take a road trip to see the Kings play in other cities. This year I was thinking of going to Alberta to see the Flames and Oilers. Right now I can get a roundtrip ticket from LA to Calgary for $267! I would like a few suggestions on places to stay and do while we are there, it would be 2 girls. We want to stay in Calgary for the most part. Is it possible to drive to Edmonton for the day or do we need to fly? What is the weather normally like and how hard will it be to get tickets? Any help would be appreciated!!!

Seriously there are plenty of hotels downtown that you can stay at. Hotel Arts is the place I usually stay at when I come down. Very close to the Dome. A couple blocks away basically. Also a ton on MacLeoad trail that is close to the LRT or a very short cab ride to the Dome.

Is it possible to drive to Edmonton for the day or do we need to fly?

Drive is about 2 and a half hours. Easy enough drive that I don't think you ladies would need to get a flight for.

What is the weather normally like and how hard will it be to get tickets?

Check the flames and oilers sites for tickets. Might not have any luck at the websites though. I'd say check places like ebay and stubhub. Probably get them cheaper now then say in March or April.

looks like the kings play calgary on monday april 6th and the oilers on the 7th... i'd recommend flying into calgary for the weekend. maybe get out to the mountains for some spring skiing/boarding or sightseeing in banff for a day. i'd recommend a hotel downtown or just outside (ie hotel arts) so that you're close to the dome, restaurants, night life, etc. depends on your budget though.

as for the game in edmonton, i'd look into either renting a car or hopping on the greyhound on the tuesday. depending on what you wanna do, you might look into flying back to LA from Edmonton.

http://www.westjet.com has a seat sale going on right now. direct flights from calgary to LA (maybe edmonton too?)

oh and definitely line up your tickets ahead of time if you can. these games will likely be sell outs as usual, so ebay or some other re-seller is your best bet.

weather is pretty unpredictable at that time of year. anywhere from a spring snow (below freezing) to 50-60's F (which is still cold for LA, i guess)

I would definitely recommend heading out to Banff for at least a day, possibly:
April 4th: Fly in to Calgary, rent a car and head out to Banff -stay in Banff for night
April 5th: Banff sightseeing, or skiing at Sunshine or Lake Louise, could drive back to Calgary for the night, or could stay in Banff.
April 6th: Maybe go for lunch somewhere on 17th Avenue, then go to the game
April 7th: Drive up to Edmonton and go to the game.
April 8th: Fly home from Edmonton

it is a little over an hour drive Calgary to Banff, and 2.5 - 3 hours to Edmonton.

Lol, how does a road trip work on a plane?

Interested in this too, we're debating on the trip across country.

(sidenote: no specific games in mind... but is there anyone out there who is willing to sell tickets?)

Thanks for all your suggestions. I'm still pulling for this trip but it now looks like we will be going to Boston, Pitts, Chicago and St. Louis in March. I do have another girl friend who loves the flames so it might just happen and we would fly into cgy and fly out of edm. Airfare is still pretty cheap. If not I def want to go back during the stampede. My goal is to visit every nhl arena to see the Kings play.

Probably why she'd rather watch them play Edmonton - the Kings have a better chance of beating 'em.
