Of course it would. It's a place people actually have heard of.

Well that's just silly. How on earth can you get 30-50,000 fans at such a location?

Wrigley is a great choice that most people have heard of to whom the game itself applies. This is part of the NHL season, not an international event. Tickets are selling for thousands of dollars; they will likely be giving tickets away at the Red Square event.

I think these anti-Wrigley comments are mostly stemming from Europe's lack of sporting tradition compared to legacies North America has produced.

I think you miss the point about the whole location/amount of fans thing. There will be only around 3000 fans at that event, but as at most KHL games, tickets revenues are not going to be an important part. This game is for pure entertaiment purposes, that will be watched in european hockey countries. And the Red Square is most perfect location to "introduce" the new league in Europe. Yeah, you could set up the game at the Luzhniki stadium, and maybe get 80,000 fans in their seats, but for TV rating outside of Russia this game would not be as entertaining, IMHO.

Ah, so the KHL runs games for charitable purposes....

If they could sell the game at large volumes, they could, but they can't, so they are forced to settle for less.

Just like to point out that I am from near Chicago and still have friends and family there. Day of the game Thursday my buddy and another friend of his were able to walk around Wrigley and get tickets for face value. Love to see where the thousands per ticket was from and who the buffoons that paid that are.
