schnieder seems to take a while to adjust to the next level. he struggled in the first month in his AHL rookie season before getting the hang of things and playing absolutely lights out for the rest of the year and the start of this year. it'll probably be the same situation with the NHL.

I think Lupul's contract doesn't make him look that great considering Gillis needs money to resign ohlund, the sedins, and burrows for next year, but our cap situation will be pretty clear by the time the ink dries on luongo's extension and gillis can start looking at offers for schneider, so we'll see how it goes.

He did, but if he is perhaps the goalie of the future, you gotta find out if he can play. Because if he can't and they let Luongo walk, that is an epic fail. I think next season Luongo and Schneider will be a tandem, if only because it seems that no one has even considered that a possibility.

#1 - Why?

#2 - Why would the Islanders/Lightning/whoever do that?

#3 - We don't have a 2nd round pick next year.

#4 - Why again?

NO. Ask GKJ said, why? There is no justification for it. With Tavares' recent performance in the WJC, he's likely to go first overall and we certainly could use Hedman more than Tavares, not that we absolutely need Hedman, we have a lot of NHL ready defensemen and a couple in the works. That would be more of a backwards deal than anything.

Schneider is the real deal IMO, he needs some time to adjust, but he's a stud. I'd be thrilled to have him on the team.

I don't know that he's going to be a STAR but I think he'll be a very good #1 in a couple of years. In the times I've seen him he's generally been very good and that's good to see at such a young age.

I don't see Schneider reaching Luongo or Lundqvist status, but I could see him being at the level of Giguere/Backstrom/Kiprusoff at the tier just below.

Didn't say our mock offseason had to be realistic, nor the trade proposals

Oh in that case, I'd do that trade in a minute if someone would take it.

Vancouver Fan intrigued by your thread here... and this question is probably getting redundant, but how "untouchable" would you consider vanRiemsdyk at this point in time?

I understand you'd probably want him playing wing with Canon/Carter, but realistically, what would you be interested in from Vancouver if we were potentially seeking a trade for him? Could something be centralized around C. Schneider potentially?

Please do reply!

I say no. Just because a goalie is touted well doesn't mean he is the real deal. I think JVR is potentially a franchise forward. I don't think we can consider Schneider to be a franchise goalie a la Luongo or Brodeur. I'd rather take my chances and run with Biron.

Franchise forward? Haven't you heard? JVR played bad against team Canada, he's no doubt a career AHLer.

He's by no means untouchable, but there's no chance he and Schneider are the center pieces of a potential deal.

I do not see Upshall getting that much unless he has a great playoff run, why is Biron getting 4.25M next year? He is been average this season, maybe he will have a great playoff run? Why do we need old Knuble when Giroux looks like he is ready to go.

Are you kidding me? Is Lupul a salary dump?

I also think it makes A LOT more sense to keep Nitty. Biron is almost certainly going to cost more and if there is an difference at all in play it's not enough to be worth a penny.

Mock. Yeah. Off. Yeah. Season. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

That's seriously all I can think of when I read this thread's title.
