Innovative PP Idea?

Watching today's Devils-Sens game, NJ coach Sutter used five forwards on the PP. By this point in the season, it's clear the Habs have no Souray or Streit in their arsenal. It might be worth trying.
Ie. the two Kost brothers on the point (or some other duo)?

Your thoughts?

Bad idea because the reason coach Sutter is doing this is because he doesn't have an Andrei Markov.

Simple. Get a big body in front. If I was Latendresse, that would be my bread and butter right there! Do like Franzen and Holmstrom and park yourself in front. It's hard for a goalie to stop what he can't see.

Latendresse proved tonight thats its better to have Kostopolous in front of the net than himself.

Lats makes soft passes and has a good shot, but he doesn't have the same speed with his wrists/puck control than many other players on the team.

Go check Holmstrom and Kostopolous' weight/height. Exactly the same.

put the 4th line out there and run the goalie. We want to get rid of that pp ASAP.

then we can score 4 on 4

Do the exact opposite; 5 defensemen.

It cant be worse, at least they would shoot.

Do you really believe Markov is to blame for the ineffective power play?

I'm not quite sure who to blame at all.

Use the same 5 players for at least 3 consecutive games would be a good start.

I still don't understand why Carbo doesn't put Lang in the slot, and instead keeps him more on the sideboards. Isn't that the reason we traded for Lang? An offensive minded right handed centreman with a good shot?

The Habs don't have the big guns at the point anymore...everyone knows it. so start thinking about new looks, and not just new personnel!

I would even try the Canada WJC approach where they have Subban as a rover. Markov obviously would be Ellis. Kovalev and kostitsyn can handle the puck on the side boards ala hodgson and tavares. Lang can kinda rove in the high slot and try and space himself for a shot (Subban's role on Team Canada), and someone else could play the Eberle role of screening the goalie/crashing the net...D'Agostini, Pacioretty and Latendresse have been our only skilled forwards who have shown a willingness to do so, so I would go with one of them.

Carbo's line juggling has done NOTHING...time to mix things up a little more.

Our PP isn't working, so why don't we change the strategy instead of the personnel? Even if we try Weber, he's not ready and he won't stay up anyway. We shouldn't have to depend on one player providing a hard shot for our PP to work. We need to move more, possess the puck and stop dumping it when no one will go get it because then it is played by the goalie and zip - puck cleared.

Bingo! That's what they need to realize.

Good management decision. Bring up Weber so he can watch the PP from the press box and send Gainey to Hamilton so he can see how the prospects are doing. If Weber wasn't in the press box Gainey would have seen him QB the PP nine times in Hamilton over the last two games. I'm sure Weber learned allot from watching!

Lang plays the backdoor play for the one timer.
