Funny you should have said this. There are already two Flyer fan posters on the Washington GDT wining about that "AHL players" in the Philadelphia lineup.

Should the Capitals win you will find many of your commrades saying that it would be different if the Flyers were healthy. That would be an excuse, no?

I know the Caps have been banged up, but they've had years' worth of bad performances and good drafts to stock up good depth in their system. The Bears have been phenomenal this year and every one of the kids they've called up to fill-in has done a great job. It's definitely a credit to Boudreau and McPhee that they've kept it all going through the injuries.

Philly may have a bad reputation amongst other fanbases, but Washington's got some bad apples too. We had the 700 level, but DC has The Dead Tree Crew so stop acting like Philly has a monopoly on bad behavior. Wasn't it your classy fanbase that pelted our players with plastic bottles after they got eliminated from the playoffs last year? That's a trick question: I know it was because I was there.

And I know they're doing well this season in attendance, but even last season when they tore off that hot streak after Thanksgiving, there were still a lot of empty seats "rockin' the red" until they were in playoff contention. I know this again, because I was there and I had an entire row in the club section to myself.

It's funny how angry Caps fans come across. Almost without exception people from opposing teams laud praise on Ovechkin and the team and they still act like it's an insult.
"The defenseman recalled departing Wachovia Center after losing Game 4 of last season's playoff series to go down three games to one. What should have been a 15-minute ride to the train station took more than an hour. "People weren't moving" for the police escort, Morrisonn said. "They were mooning us, throwing stuff at us, beer bottles, whatever they had in their hands. It's to be expected from Philly fans. Didn't they boo Santa Claus?"
Earlier in the series, when a busload of Capitals employees arrived in Philadelphia, a group of unruly fans surrounded the bus and rocked it back and forth while screaming obscenities. When the staffers returned, the bus was covered in mustard, ketchup and shaving cream."

It's no different than the people who keep bringing up the controversial interference penalty from last year. I hear about it 10x a day. Every fan makes excuses when their team loses. It's up to you if you choose to acknowledge them or not. I say let it go. It's not an argument you'll ever win, so why bother? You're looking for acknowledgment from a source unlikely to give it.

Regardless of whether or not I agree with them, they do have a point. Your AHL'ers are way better than ours are. It's not an excuse if it's true. Hell, our best prospect isn't even IN the AHL. And I'm pretty sure that Alzner could play just about anywhere. It just shows how much depth you guys have that they had the luxury of leaving him in Hershey as long as they did to develop.

A few years at the bottom of the standings (by Leonsis' design), some good drafting, and superb development when Boudreau was in the minors have given you guys an unusually-deep pool of competent players to draw upon. It's a credit to your ownership and your organization. They're going to be good for a long, long time.

I actually think Leonsis should be a candidate to replace Bettman, but that's a different story altogether.

Personally, I see no shame in losing to Washington at home, and thus, no need for excuses. They're red-hot there, they have a chip on their shoulder because of the playoffs last season and the 7-2 loss last month, and the Flyers are banged up. It would take a pretty big collapse on the Caps' part for them to lose and I just don't see it happening here. Biron's not going to stand on his head in the first like Niitty did and I think this one may get out of hand fast.

I'll be at the game tonight, so I'll be hoping for a Flyers victory, but I just don't think it's in the cards. That's fine. It's a long season. We can still take the season series.

I can't wait to deal with the bandwagon fans, too. They're the angry ones. It's never the old-school people. I've probably been to more Caps games in the last three years than most of them and I root for the Caps when they're not playing the Flyers.

I don't know, I've been rooting for the Caps as long as I can remember, and I must say, I don't like the Flyers.

Maybe it's carry over from the Eagles, but I've never liked the Flyers.

No offense to any of you guys, but I think many Caps fans would take a little more delight in going through the Flyers and Pens in the playoffs. Not saying it would happen, but I think Caps fans have a desire to beat a local rival and a team that has consistently been better than us. That and the old Patrick division foes are significantly more hated than the fellow Southeast teams.

How could you possibly get excited about a rivalry with these guys? (from a thread on our board)...

James "Big Shot" Black - Terry Yake - Sergei Berezin
Jeff Freisen - Jiri Novotny - Brian Willsie
Joe Murphy - Rico Fata - Ivan Ciernik
Tom Chorske - Joe Sacco - Stephen Peat

Joel Kwiatkowski - Jason Doig
Frantisec Kucera - Sylvain Cote
Rob Zettler - Rick Berry

G
Jim Carey - Rick Tabaracci

I think the Cap fans hate the Flyers a bit more then the other way around, but can you blame us? We have nobody to hate in our own division! You guys are hogging all the good rivalries up there in the Atlantic.

As far as respect for teams go I think Cap fans have a pretty good amount of respect for the way the Flyers team is built, if you think about it there is quite a bit in common between the 2 teams.

Well, you got your wish. I hate Boudreau now and have lost all respect for Semin as a player.

You must REALLY hate Staal then.

Also, just a minor correction to Crosschecks post, which might be the highlight of this thread so far, Alzner only played 20 games in Hershey before he was called up.

That gif was funny, but weird. You could tell it took a crazy amount of work but it still had gif-itis (a bunch of dots from whatever ****** gif-maker was used).

C'mon, we can build a rivalry here.

We just have to start a list of differences.

They're at the Verizon Center.... Flyers are married to Comcast.

The Flyers have heart. They have Semin.

After reading the thread on the main board, I think it's okay to go ahead and hate the Caps now, as well as their fans. Everyone happy?

Oh man. I just sat there and read that whole thing. I still like the Caps as a team, but their fans are just as bad as the Pens. I didn't agree with some of the stuff said by Flyers fans, but they had absolutely NOTHING to say that didn't have homer written all over it. Took a majority of the stuff out of context as well.
