But this kinda proves that we're officially back to the NHL-not-paying-attention-to-what's-going-on-here mode. Should've been Eriksson, if anyone. Even with his strong start, Modano's only been the 3rd best center on his own team.
But can you really make the case Richards or Ribeiro deserve to play in the game? Eriksson is a tricky one too because he doesn't fit into the mold of the ASG (high skilled, bore-fest without a penchant for defense).
It's clearly a legacy pick, but it's not as if Modano is having a bad year either. And it is the ASG, which means it's the one day hockey fans mourn without having any decent games on television.
Yeah, I'm the same way, Piqued. While both Richards and Ribeiro have had better years than Modano, neither is exactly playing that much better than Modano to overcome the legacy factor.
Eriksson remains the more obvious pick, but just how much of a reputation does he have with the league? Sure, he did win a POY, but big deal; it's just one week and the list of players to do so isn't exactly a who's who of NHL players. Eriksson also wouldn't entice the casual observer to tune into the game, and while I'm not certain Modano would, he stands a better chance at doing just that.
