"Billy Litinov"??

Can anyone tell me the real name of a Russian player that has a name sounding an awful lot like "Billy Litinov"? He may have played for the old Soviet Union and the 1980 Olympics. He may be active in Russian hockey now as a coach or something.

I had a discussion with someone today and this name came up but I couldn't understand the pronunciation of the name from my recording of the tape.

If you can give me a guess of the person in question, could you also tell me what he is doing now?

Thanks for any help,

Guy

That's a tough one as I don't know Russian hockey all that well, but it could be the new coach of the Russian National team who was a former red army star back in '80. His name is very hard to say imo. I can't even try to spell it.

I guess you mean Zinetula Bilyaletdinov. As player he was one of the best defenders in Russia. Ended his career 1987 while playing for Dynamo Moscow. He was coach for Dynamo until the end of this season and played a key role in forming Ovechkin.
Bilyaletdinov or "Coach Bill" how fans call him will be the head coach of Team Russia in the World Cup this fall.

The first person who said such awful rumour is you, Guy.
Even the idea Bilyaletdinov to coach one of these teams seems like scientific fantastic for me.
