Before I went to waxed laces, my laces would loosen up after about 20 mnutes of skatings. I went to waxed laces and don't have that problem anymore. They are stiff when you first put them in, but loosen up after a bit.
Non waxed don't hold as tightly, and don't let you have one part of the skate loose as easily. I've never had a problem tying them, and wouldn't use anything else. I like my skates to stay tight, thank you.
When I switched to waxed, I got used to them and was never able to go back to non-waxed.
There's just something about the way waxed laces look on your skates, especially when the laces are brand new. It's also the way the feel on your fingertips. They seem to fit better, look better, feel snugger and don't have that "limp" look you get with non-waxed laces.
I'm totally obsessed when it comes to tying my skates. It might be a little bit of OCD, but I can't talk to anyone and I can't listen to other people when they talk to me. I'm totally concentrated in my own world with the focus on tying them to perfection. There's something about the way waxed laces look that make them look more "complete" and "satisfying" as you are tying them.
My current skates came with waxed.. I can't wait until they break so I can buy some unwaxed (I don't want to waste laces ).. they hurt my hands and are hard to untie. Plus I don't even care to have my skates that tight.
I don't see how anyone can say there isnt a difference. You guys must be buying some really crappy waxed laces.
If you are talking about quality wax Laces then they make a huge difference. I would never use regular laces in my skates. Wax simply keeps your boot tighter and tight longer thusd making your boot more stable.
IDK about anyone else, but in my opinion I want the most stable fit I can possibly get for my boot.
There is a con though as some pointed out. They are much harder to unlace when you take your boot off. This is because they are much more stiff and tighter then a regular lace. They are made to stay tight so obviosly this is a con that is directly the effect of the pro. Also eventually the wax does wear off. It takes a long time though and even a worn down wax lace will stay tighter then a regular lace.
If you don't care about having a snug tight base for your foot then you don't want waxed laces. If you do want a snug solid base for your foot then they will only help.
