Kaberle hints at waiving his no- trade as per TSN

Interesting. I would hope we would consider. The supposed Carter and 1St was overpayment then and not to be considered now but what would everyone here give for him or is there no interest. Me I would give JVR and Jones. What does everyone think?

I think JVR and Jones is a great idea. Since we're already a few mill over the cap with Briere coming back...the best thing to do would probably be to go even further over the cap.

3 thoughts:

1) Salary doesn't work, would have to shed 3-4 mil more in payroll

2) Kaberle's style of play is fairly redundant considering our current defense

3) Not a way in the world I'd deal JVR for Kaberle

exactly, and he has been great. and he is signed cheap long term. and why the hell would anyone consider trading away JVR? Its nice to think he may be a spare part, but when CArter hits RFA, he is going to cost a fortune. JVR plus compensation makes it ok to lose Carter at that time.

My exact words.

Burke will want a combo of early draft picks and a good young roster player. Randy Jones is neither. Luca Sbisa is both.

Hence, the ship sailed.

I'd get rid of Gagne at that juncture instead of Carter.

As much as I love Simon (I have his jersey), he is going to be 31 with concussion history. Carter is going to be 26 and entering his prime. No brainer there IMO.

I figure we build around Carter, Richards, Briere, Hartnell, and JVR on offense and Coburn, Kimmo, Sbisa, Carle, and Parent on defense.

The biggest suck about that is that I'm betting we'll lose Giroux and I really like Giroux.

I'd keep Gagne and pass on Kaberle.

I was referring more to the future Gagne/Carter debate, but yeah, I'd keep Gagne over Kaberle as well.

We aren't completely flush with goalscoring wingers, especially if the powers that be decide to keep Briere at C.

What future debate????

If you think this front office will have that debate anything soon, you have too much stock in Lupul being around till then.

Very true, thats a no brainer even now. Why lose Giroux, or is that a Cap issue?

Kaberle is awesome but the cap situation is pretty crazy and, to be honest, his value was a good bit higher last year when, obviously, he had one more full season to play under his idiotically cheap contract. Yes, the majority of his value is based upon his caliber of play but his enviable contract would have demanded a larger return in a trade. His contract is still very nice but not nearly as awesome as it looked last season.

They're going to have to make a choice between Gagne and Carts, Lupul is a foregone conclusion, he will be traded.

The cap is going to stagnate and Carter is a 7 mill per year player at this point, there's no way we're going to be able to keep both, especially with Coburn's raise and JVR coming on board.

Cap issue. If he hits 50 points in 10-11 (which seems fairly possible), he's going to want 3-4 mill which we probably won't be able to afford.

Fly high, while I respect your opinion normally, I disagree. If the cap stagnates, it means salaries will to, since most FA contracts were based on the fact the cap would increase.

I think we will see Briere waive his NCM before this team deals Carter. Gagne is a matter of health, but he is still only 27.

Plus, if we are in cap trouble, so are a LOT of teams. This team will make sacrifices to keep Richards, Gagne and Carter as it's core.

Obviously no to Kaberle...we are at least 2 million over when Briere returns as is.

cap issues, why trade or top prospect, we need a more physical pressence on the blue line more than another puck moving d man......

again, why trade our top prosp?
