In fact the Blueshirts swept their four-game season series with the Sabres in 2007-08, gaining some minor revenge for having been knocked out of the Stanley Cup playoffs in the spring of 2007 by Buffalo. Will the trend continue in Buffalo?

Let's continue the forecheck from the Montreal game and good things will happen.

Big game, especially with another one tomorrow night in Ottawa.

They need this one big time. Zherdev needs to net one, as does Dubinsky - badly...

Wow, Lundqvist .908% and a 2.67 thats very unlike him - and the Rangers GAA 2.71... very different from last year at this time yet its good for 10th in the league.

Rangers record:

When Zherdev scores: 9-2-0

When Dubinsky scores: 5-0-0

When Korpikoski records a point: 3-0-0

- I'd say thats a key line tonight...

Rangers are 5-7-2 against teams with a top 10 goal scorer.

Good point and I don't think they have played together this yr..........actually pretty exited about that lines speed and I like Drury with Dawes and Prucha( they have both stepped it up)

Gomez needs to get it going. He has been more of a bleep disturber but Callahan looks good with him and Naslund is the leading scorer

think it may be time to bench Sjostrom just to change things up and throw Fritsche in their with Betts and Orr. Voros is the odd man out right now

I'd rather keep the speed in with Sjostrom and give Orr a rest, but not tonight or against Ottawa with Neil and Ruutu.

Did Ruutu get suspended for that biting incident?

I think Tim Connolly (sp?) is back in for the Sabres tonight. Starting a tough road trip and the guys need to set a tone...tonight would be a good start

Valiquette in according to Sam Weinman

LETS GO RANGERS

Craig Rivet has just returned from injury for the Sabres and this will be his second game, Rivet's return definitely adds some grittiness to the Sabres defense. If Connolly does return tonight he definitely is a threat and improved the Sabres Powerplay drastically as he usually quarterbacks the unit. The interesting thing will be the Rangers PP vs the Sabres PK, I believe in the last matchup Vanek tallied a shorty and the Sabres PK really shut the Rangers down.

Last game dubinsky came very close to putting one in the net several times, if he plays like that again tonight he'll get one

If Rangers continue playing like last game, we've got a good chance there in BUF.

Let's go Rangers !!!

It's a shame Kaleta isn't suiting up tonight so Mara and him could continue their love affair

The Sabres have a great PK, but any team can shut the Rangers PP down.

Its not that hard, all you have to do is pressure them if they ever set up and once you clear it just stand up at the blueline and Gomez will shoot it into the goalies chest from the neutral zone.

The Rangers PP is only +14 with the 6th most chances in the NHL. Thats a 7.4 PP %.

Columbus is only a +9 hahahah terrible, but not much worse.

Come to think of it, I'm not sure what the Rangers are worse at, playing teams that are slumping, or playing teams that are on a roll....

to be honest with you though I've watched every Sabres game this season and here are some encouraging thoughts for the Rangers tonight:
a) The Sabres have not been that strong at home this season they seem to play a little too fancy and are way more turnover prone. On the road their game is much more simple and emulates Ruff's defense first system
b) The Sabres have been abysmal on both ends of back-to-back games thus far this season, and with a trip to powerhouse Detroit coming up tomorrow they may be unfocused.
c) The Sabres have had a terrible time getting the puck out of their zone this season and teams that forecheck well can usually find success creating turnovers and unassisted scoring opportunities.
d) Miller has been very hot and cold thus far this season, you may catch him on a night when he decided to revert back to going down early on every shot leaving the top of the net open.

That sound exactly like this team. Just replace Sabres with Rangers and Miller with Lundqvist

Hopefully Renney recognizes this and doesn't pull in the reins from the last two games. The last 2 the Rangers have done a much better job of getting the second and third guys involved in the forecheck, stepping into passing lanes, going deeper and reading when to double team down low.

But, if history repeats itself we will probably see a regression in forechecking tonight because whenever the Rangers give up more than 3 goals in a game, the next game they are skating around like robots being sure to stay high and clog up the neutral zone, especially against a team like the Sabres who counter well and have speed.

The Rangers actually have a better 5/5 Goal ratio than the Sabres and they HAVE to press the issue if they want to win this game IMO.

I would love to see the Rangers continue that hybrid forecheck play to take advantage of what your talking about, but i dont expect it because Renney has NO BALLS, and hell want to win a 2-1 game tonight which you can't try to do against this team - who average about 3 per and boast some serious sniping ability.

You can bank on that.
