Brisebois passes Tremblay for 5th all-time scoring by a Canadiens defenseman.

It took Patrice Brisebois 76 more games to tie and pass J.C. Tremblay, but he's now 5th all-time in scoring by a Canadiens defenseman.

JEAN-CLAUDE TREMBLAY
794 GP
57 G
306 A
363 PTS
204 PIM
+130

PATRICE BRISEBOIS
870 GP
85 G
279 A
364 PTS
535 PIM
+14

PS. Just thought I'd post this for some more Breezer bashing..

The dude has had a respectable career nothing more or nothing less. It took him a heck of a lot more games to reach the total and also the +/- in this case also tells alot.

Just 76 more games? That's, in games anyway, is one (1) season.

If you also look at the players that Tremblay played with, there is quite the difference in quality. Tremblay had the Richards, Beliveau, Cournoyer, Harvey, Mahovlich, Lafleur, Lemaire.. Brisebois had Muller, Turgeon, Kovalev, Koivu, Damphousse, Savage, Desjardins, and Rucinsky.

With better teams throughout the years, Brisebois could of been 3rd or 4th on the list.. but that's something we'll never know. Either way, he has had a respectable career.. and this proves it. Also a +14, even after playing all those years with those bad clubs.. is respectable.

Closing in on 1000 games, 5th in team scoring for d-men, either way you slice it, it's a a nice run and quite an accomplishment.

Bashing Breezer is so 1995... The guy is the nicest hockey player you'll meet and he willingly came back here because he loves the CH and the city (even if he was getting booed when he left).

He's also been quite the serviceable 7th dman in the last 2 yrs. Where else will you find a guy who can play like him for so cheap these days? He's actually been quite decent, this year especially. I'll admit he has had a couple of bad patches but i've grown to really appreciate what he does.

Similar to JC in that he was criticized for what he wasn't rather than what he was. PB was no JC but took heat for the same reasons.

True, but JC had TH to make him look so much better.

For some reason, I was expecting to see more points from the 5th all time dman.

For comparison, here is Markov career total:
GP:533 G:68 A:227 P:295 P/M:+29 PIM:309

Not that far off at all.

Markov should pass Brisebois & Tremblay by next season.

However, after Markov, it'll be another 10 years or so before anyone else can challenge either player.

I remember cries of 'hit him with your purse Mrs. tremblay' He looked at the game the way Mike Bossy did and wasn't really embraced the way he could have been, as I remember. I remember an incident where a Ranger, Vic Hadfield, I think, was roughing him up and Tremblay wanted no part of it, causing Henri Richard to step in , kind of like Bouillon, and fight Hadfield, a legit heavyweight.

and Bill, I got the TH reference.

I'm drawing a blank this morning. Sadly I didn't get this reference.

Congrats to Brisebois.

You might want to bash him, but remember he is the only guy on the team who has won a Stanley Cup with the habs.

His play this year is that on a serviceable sixth dman. What we expected and what he is payed to do. Add in that he is a good teammate and a good ambassador for the team, there is no reason to bash him.

JC looked good because he played on the same team as Terry Harper. And any player would look pretty good then. Being from Greenfield Park and an unconditional TH fan, McPhee was probably the one yelling suff like "you forgot your purse, Mrs Tremblay".

I don't see the problem with criticizing Brisebois for what he isn't. I mean, I'd give him an "A" on this season's mid-season report card and all. He has fairly massively exceeded my expectations.

But whether it's Brisebois 1995 or Brisebois 2008, I still don't like his style of play and think the Habs could spend the same money to get a better player. I still think of $1.5M as a lot for a 6th/7th D. Well, ok, not A LOT, but not super-ideal either. Pretty much ditto for the big contract he had in the first go-round when all of us troglodytes wanted to boo him.

Congrats to him all the same, and I WILL give him an "A" for his mid-season report card, so let this post not seem to be a bash per se, just an argument for the right to bash in general.

do you remember JC's ability to stick handle.......I was a kid and remember being amazed with what we would now call Kovalev like ability to handle the puck.
