Half way mark

Alright i haven't made a thread in a while...

So after 41 games we're on pace for

50 wins, 20 losses and 12 ot/so losses for 112pts

-A better pace than last year
-With TONS of injuries
-Virtually no PP goals

I gotta say they played some bad games and won but overall i'm pretty pleased so far, now let's catch the Bruins shall we?

So what's missing to get past the 2nd round??

edit: i meant HALF way mark...damn typo

Halfway mark of the season! Your good surprises and disappointments

After game 41 the Habs are 25-10-6 and 56 points and playing much better in the last 2 weeks.

Surprises:

- Lang, I thought he would be a slight upgrade of Smolinski but he's actually been our best center so far this season.

- Lapierre: Had a rough start to the year but since a trip to the press box he's been our most consistent forward.

- Kostopoulos: All heart

- Price: Can't say I'm too surprised but I'm really surprised with his record.

Disappointments:

The PP: Has been awful, however 6 goals in the last 3 games so hopefully it will wake up for the 2nd half.

Plekanec: Well, we all know he hasn't put up the points that he did last year but remember this guy is a true second half guy and a great game tonight.

Sergei Kostitsyn: Sophomore slump maybe but he's been very bad till mid-late December.

Patrick Roy No we just need to to keep going. The experience from last year will push us through. Though another defenseman wouldn't hurt

I just think we need a little luck to stay healthy and maybe get a reliable #4-#5 defenseman

What's your most favorite game after half the season?

After 41 games, which was your favorite game?

Does anyone have the stats for Montreal last season on where our top scorers were at the half way point and how well they did *after* the halfway point?

It would be good to show when certain players were waking up last season...

We are a much better team this year than last IMHO. Our 5-on-5 play is lightyears better which will great in the playoffs. If we can somehow land JayBo or Kaberle to replace Brisebois, we will be the team to beat.

The 6-1 and 6-2 Leafs thrashings stand out to me, living in a town with many Leaf fans it allows me to poke fun!

I'm probably repeating myself...

We all knew we were suppose to have depth.. But that DEEP ?!
If you look up depth definition in the dictionnary you see the 2008-2009 habs team.

We lost Komi for 16 games ! ( a guy who plays 20+ minutes a night. )
We lost our starting goalie for a lil bit too long now ( for my taste )
We lost Higgins - Koivu - Tanguay ( wich is supposed to be our first line back in october. lol )

can we say depth ?!?!

there's so many guys that steped up it's not even funny.
We have three NHL ready rookies on the roster right now.
And guys like Lapierre, Latendresse, Kostopoulos, Bégin and even Dandenault fbefore he broke his arm are playing a big role on the team success so far.

I'm very happy with what I see. I can tell you guys that i'm less worried than I used to be at the beginning of the season with all these UFA coming up next summer.

Surprise:

Lang: I think he is a better fit than Sundin. I love this guy. Some people were whinning that he was paid too much , well he fully deserve his salary!

Lapierre: I always saw him as a 5th Liner , and hes now proving us hes a very good 3rd line player. Kudo to him.

Brisebois: For his salary, this guy is a bargain!

Dissapointment:

Halak: Im worried about our 2nd goaltender. We definitivly dont have a good combo like Boston with Manny-Thomas.

Kovalev: Where was he before 2 weeks ago????

Obyrne: Well the sac man sac himself to hamilton.

Halak is fine, we don't need a combo like Boston to succeed.

You mean the Kovalev that leads our team in points? Oh yeah,

We were never supposed to be a platoon this season. It was supposed to be 62-22.

Also I don't know if anybody has noticed (altho the last four games have helped), but we are at 132 GF and 109 GA... on 82 games that would make it 264-218... which is very similar to last year's totals. Yet the team hasn't played to its full potential with the complete lineup, if they do, its gonna be scarry. I think the Habs might have a better second half, and we could finish over 110 points and end-up with more GF at the end of the season than the last one. We might not finish first, but no one's gonna be whinning that we finished only 10 points over the 8th place team. We might have over 20 points in lead this season.

Here's too an even more succesfull second half for this season!!

(oh and to all the whiners... I hate to say it but.... TOLD YOU SO!!! TOLD YOU SO!!!)

While it has been an up and down first half, I believe this years team is better than last years. We are not relying on the PP for our goals, our 5-on-5 play this year has been so much better, and we are finding more ways to win.

That and we are going through the adversity of injuries, which will make the team better. All of this will make the team much more dangerous come playoff time.

What I would like to see in the second half:

-more consistency from the PP, not at the same clip as the last couple years but enough so it doesn't feel like it did earlier this year.
- Hopefully the injuries will stop.
- Our young guys continue to contribute like they have. Our depth right now is amazing, and will only help come playoff time.
- maybe acquire another D man.

So he got 17 goals and 46 pts in the last 41 games? If he repeats that this year, he finishes with 28 goals and 78 pts. Pretty respectable numbers.

7 less goals and 6 less pts then last year..

The great Bryan Smolinski with 2 goals and 11 points, -7 replaced by Lang with 16 goals and 32 points, +11.

Bruins fan here, but I come in peace.

Pointing out that the Bruins lineup has been devastated with injuries as well, our D corps has been shred to pieces. Looking forward to when we meet in the playoffs (god knows it will happen), hopefully we have our players back in the lineup. It's looking like Lucic is out for the game tommorow.

We were never really supposed to platoon any year, it just always happens that way.

Without the Price injuries, maybe Halak plays better knowing that Price is right there.

There is no denying that Kovalev loves to play here and that he does have more heart wearing the CH then I've ever seen before. But that doesn't me he is playing great. He's easily our most inconsistent forward. When he does less, he's great. When he does too much, he's terrible.

The 6-2 win at home against the Rangers. The night we had the 'CA' jersey.
