Good win tonight. Biron should have been 1st star I thought. Let's parlay this into another beatdown of Pittsburgh.

By the way, not sure what CBC was doing, but Ponikarovsky was not 3rd star, Richards was. #2 was Biron, #1 was Carter.

And thank God the Cardinals are giving the Panthers a good old fashioned spanking.

CBC probably picks their own stars.

Some notes from Tim P.:
  • Gratton out 4-6 weeks
  • Laviolette to Pittsburgh?
  • Niitty back on Tuesday?

http://philadelphia.comcastsportsnet...471&feedID=695
Quote:

Ossi Vaananen, who seemed fine Friday at practice, missed the game with a knee sprain. Luca Sbisa replaced him in the lineup. … Though no one said it officially, one of the reasons Danny Briere would not have come back to play Saturday was the fact the Flyers were playing on the back end of a Wachovia Center double-header with college basketball earlier in the day. The ice during a changeover from basketball to hockey on the same day is never very good. Given Briere’s significant groin injury, putting him on the ice tonight even if he had been healthy, would have been foolish. … Coach John Stevens said he is pleased with the progress Antero Niittymaki has made with his groin injury. The Fin could be back in goal by Tuesday. … Josh Gratton (abdominal tear) was placed on injured reserve after undergoing surgery and will miss 4-6 weeks. He could go LTI later which would shave another $550,000 off the cap. … Look for Peter Laviolette as the guy likely to end up getting Michel Therrien’s job if he’s fired in Pittsburgh. ... How about former Flyer assistant coach Wayne Fleming getting yanked between periods of a game in Russia and was told to go home. Except he wasn’t fired at Omsk, ESPN reported. Just benched for one period. That’s life in the Kontinental Hockey League. ... Brendan Shanahan has agreed to a contract with the Devils. So he remains in the Atlantic Division – but not with the Flyers.

Wait a sec.... in the KHL, a coach gets benched? Damn...

I appreciate the reasoning for not playing Briere tonight. The last thing the Flyers need is for him to aggravate his groin because of a rut in the ice.

I was watching the updates from work on the computer and needless to say I was pretty nervous especially when Pocahontas tied it up. Thank God Carter stepped up and the Flyers got the 2 points.
Giving up 40 plus shots to the Leafs though is unacceptable.

I don't mind the occasional game in which a goalie needs to come up big and stop a bunch of shots. It's a good way of keeping them sharp. Besides, people make too much of a big deal with regards to shots on goal. I'd be more concerned with the number of scoring chances created rather than shots on goal.

Carter had gone so cold. It's nice to see him score. Now he can go on another tear.

Sbisa reminds me a lot of Chelios - hopefully he can add that "nastiness" to his game.

As long as he keeps bouncing back up after them, I'm happy. Even if he puts himself out of the play with a check, he's very quick to recover and get back into position. Time is all he needs to build the body, hopefully.
